dont forget the lights only self test once the engine has started, not on ign on, and the afs only works above 15mph.
if its not working properly there should be an alarm, try starting in the dark up against a wall. i'm sure itll be working ok.

Hi Chris, yes were fine when i went out last night and did their little dance on start up. But this morning nothing --very odd! perhaps they just do it every other start up? I had no message on the MFD, will keep an eye on it.

Car booked in to look at the lights on Saturday morning, will let you know the outcome. Definately not right but no MFD error message!

Just had my 06 TDI Sport rebuilt post the missus' rearranging it's face!! When I bought it I opted for Xenons, Sat Nav + bluetooth, and CD changer.
My original Xenons weren't AFS but always went down then levelled back up on initial start up. Since rebuild they don't do it, think I need it checked out at the Stealers or possibly some friendly local :) with VagCom as I dont have it yet.

Does anyone know if the xenons can be retro fitted or do they have to be done at a dealers?

i've found that the xenon lamps point down at the road a bit too much when driving and i've noticed that there's an adjustment screw on casing. I'm pretty sure this will rasie them up a bit but will that interfere with the auto-levelling and AFS?

I actually don't find them overly bright either, sat next to a couple of BMW's and theirs always appear brighter than mine when compared.

Has anyone
a) adjusted the angle of the lights so they are higher
b) changed the bulbs for brighter units?

I agree Tam. the ones in my '03 ST170 appeared alot brighter IMO.

Anyway got mine to a dealers today(not where i bought it) for a diagnostic on the xenons. Told them they dont self test everytime (yesterday morning no, last night yes) and dont 'appear' to follow the road when i turn. ALso mentioned that they appear to be set too low.

They plugged the diagnostic in and it was showing no errors. They tell me that it isnt suppossed to do it everytime just and i quote 'some times'. Told them i thought it needed to judge the weight of the car each time so was required everytime lights turned on and they just shrugged their shoulders. Sorry we dont know....what sort of answer is that??

Customer service is not their strong point, charm school was definatley shut when they got there :)

So back to square one, think i'll try another dealer.

I don't think they self test if the vehicle is moving... I have convenience pack and if they switch the lights on going under a bridge or in to an underground carpark, they don't self test...

To test tehm pointing round corners, just drive like the F1 drivers do to keep their tyres warm at a speed over 15mph.... Look out for the 'v' and see if it moves...

Mine definately self test the first time I turn them on each day, if the car is stationary.
You can visibly see them moving if you suddenly turn the steering wheel.

Its an odd one thats for sure! When they do it its REALLY obvious infront of the garage door, up, down, then both out and in. Will have another play in the dark this weekend :)

mine do it every time too. it also does it while moving (if you pull off as soon as the engine is started, it will still run its routine).

Just to chip in that mine also do the dance everytime the lights are switched on and the ignition is on... Except if the car is moving and the lights come on via the convenience function - I haven't tried switching them on manually whilst driving...

Do you have convenience?

Yes, I have Convenience function. Think prob is that the dealers know a lot less than you guys on here;)
