Mine do the start up dance all the time i think, unless i switch the car on and not give it a chance to dance and drive straight off. Whats the big deal anyway...dance no dance??? In my Audi A3 the xenons were set high and i always blinded oncominng people and when behind them...often getting flashed!

Exactly! Thats why he wants it to work properly, so it doesn't blind people! :p

I tested mine today (about 20 times) and every time they adjusted themselves.
Everytime the car was started and the lights turned on (from - off/auto) they did it. I think the only time they don't is when they have been on sidelights only. They even do it if you start driving straight away.
Even starting the car 3-4 minutes after it's been running with the lights on and it will do it.

Well, I went to the dealer today and they failed completely to fix it.

They replaced the motor control unit, yet the AFS still failed to move left or right...they even tried to convince me that it was working when it clearly wasn't !

They also failed to even order a new washer fluid motor, even though they knew it wasn't working, saying they would have to order one and I would have to go back a third time, even though I am a 45 minute drive away.

Customer service ? Abysmal !

Dealer was J T Hughes, Oswestry... I won't be going back... VERY disappointed.

I believe the lights self test upon each ignition start whether the lights are on or off... I saw them move with lights off when the dealer I bought mine off were manoevring it out of the showroom...

You won't notice the self test with the lights off, as you are not in front of the car...

when you turn the lights on while moving, it has already self-tested, so doesn't need to do it again, hence no self-test while moving...

:D

I already had that covered, we restarted the car and they self tested again, but there was no movement at all when steering lock applied. They are faulty. :(

wrong mate.
try starting the car against a wall with the lights off, then switch your lights on after a little while. afs self test on 'lights on'.

Ok, I'm a bit late the conversation .... but .....

For my car ......

Lights will test when turned on .. but only on the first turn on of the lights on that ignition (you'll need to turn the car off/on again to get the lights to do it again)

The lights do not move at lower than around 15Km's (i.e 8mph) above that speed they move....

Turning the wheel when stationary does not make the lights move.

That's very interesting, - I had a Cupra on testdrive for a full day in December 07 and it's Xenons definitely turned when the car stationary and lock was applied.

Are the beams definitely turning on the move - do you see the light path change ?

Has the Xenon spec been changed, I wonder ???

Yep, love seeing them move into corners when driving.

Mine now appear to ok..touch wood. complete the self test when they are turned on, and definately move when turning into corners BUT they do not turn when less than about 10mph as TAM says no movement when stationary. ;)
