4 years or 40k for the timing belt? :wtf:

My LC has only done 40k but is coming up for 5 years old in December. When I enquired about the timing belt change at the last main dealer service in June they told me not to worry as it wasn't due for replacement until 8 years or 80,000 miles [:@]

Rather the opposite to your experience cmc  I agree with t'others though, it does sound like your dealer is taking the wee wee.

Fluff

Like I said the new advice from Skoda and soon to be SEAT (no idea about VW or Audi) is cambelts should be changed at 4 years old regardless of mileage. The 40K he quoted is wrong for his engine though much older engines did have a 40k replacement interval.

Whoever told you 8 years is making it up, no car has a published 8 year interval. 80K sounds right for some cars but is superceeded by this new advice if it reaches 4 years old before it gets to 80K

i got told by a very respected vag and porche indipendant garage that 60k the dealer quoted was early and he normally changes them at 80k as a precaution because he has known them to fail above 90k
mine has 60k on it now and was going to get mine done around the 70k mark

sounds like they are trying to pick up on everything they can to make some cash i mean "Windscreen wiper smearing" WTF!!!??

deffo sound like blaggers to me
