Ok so a huge and HEAVY package arrived today...

2 discs
4 pads
2 carriers
2 callipers
2 strengthened goodrigde brakelines

the discs and pads are still great, which will save me quite a bit.
The callipers are also in very good nick so I'm well pleased.

Just the paint was flaking off

So I started sanding the carriers, and just gave them their first new coat...is really gonna look the nuts i think

and no they aren't flying...they're held up by fishing wire..haha

Ok I am still refurbing the brakes, but need your opinions.

Just to see what it would look like, I have sprayed one of the carriers a different color. You think it would match the car? Its something different from the red everyone has...but does it look good? I can;t make up my mind

So I fitted my brakes on saturday and the carriers which were machined down by 6mm just clear the discs. And I am talking just clear them...even had to machine one of them down slightly more as the bottom point of the carrier was catching the disc.

However have done that now, and took it for quite a long spin to see if the heat expanded them to the point where they do hit (although I don;t think they expand that much). But when I stopped I could still fit a piece of paper between the carrier and disc.

However I am still getting a sort of screatching noise when I am in very low gear just rolling only on the passenger side! When I press the brake it stops.

I just took em off again just now, and milled the carrier just that much more. Then I put some copper grease on all points where the pads touch the carrier/calliper.

I haven't taken a spin yet, will do in a minute.

But question is what if it still makes the noise? what could it be? Any help would be appreciated.

(sorry for long explenation)

Ok to add to the problem/explenation

When I put them on saturday I forgot to grease the bolts that hold the calliper to the carrier. The one that can shift in its shaft to either brake or release brake (ie move calliper and thus pads away or towards discs)

So now I greased the one side which made the noise but then it got dark and couldn't do the other side. Just drove and now its only the one side that I didn't grease thats making noise. Makes sense I guess. I think the carriers is not moving away properly from the calliper thus pads stay against discs slightly.

But now there is the following:

On the pic you can see that part of the disc is clean (where pads hits disc) and the bottom part of disc towards centre hub, is oxidated.

The oxidation is nothing severe as its just from a cleaning on sunday. Can wipe it off with your finger.
Question is, why is the pad not getting that part of the disc?

yes I have. and they are relatively free to slide side to side within the carrier. But they should or else they wont move away from disc when releasing brake.

However, my camber is off by quite a bit. The steering wheel is not dead straight, and my tires aren't great. They judder.

Could that add to the problem?

if you running second hand discs and pads and have fitted them in a different order to what they originally were fitted then they will wear unevenly untill they have bedded in to each other

I don't know. Bought it second hand (pads and discs were barely used) but it came in a big box, all unmounted.

So i mounted it using 1 outside and 1 inside pad for each disc, not knowing if it was the same pad going with same disc as previous owner used

so they will need a far amount of time to bed in as they will be all over the place if they are not fitted the same.

hmm..never knew this would make such an impact.

So best thing might be to swap the inside pads around and do the same with outside pads?

(reason I am calling them inside and outside, is because for 312mm brakes, the inside pads have the metal bracket on them which clicks into the calliper piston)

Also, on the below pic which are also TT brakes like mine, there is a metal clip of some sort which goes into 2 small holes in the calliper. What does this clip do?
I have them lying around but was a bitch to fit, so they aren't on yet...

thats like building an engine but not fitting the timing belt as its a bitch to fit lol

who needs a timing belt anyway ???!!!
