cant start car

for some reasonmy car is being an absoloubt ******* this week
it obviously knows its time for us to part after 6 years together

anyhows ... i can get in the car no problems and start the engine for a few seconds
then it dies
the little key which indicates the immobiliser is still lit
does anyone know if these are a transponder system or just an immobiliser

any help on getting the bleeding thing started would be much appreciated

sounds like an immo fault - worth scanning on vag-com incase it's a faulty controller

What engine is in the car?
Certain immobilisers can be bypassed, depends on which ecu.

Can't beleive it, mines started doing this now !!! looks like a trip to the Stealers this weekend.......... Is this a common fault?

My car has the same problem. Any idea how much it would cost to get it fixed? What parts need to be changed? It's an ibiza tdi '96...

if you have a spare key i would try that, as far as i know i believe these do use a transponder unit so its either faulty signal from that key you were using or the immo is faulty

I already tried that, but it doesn't work. So I guess it's the piece in the car that is faulty. Any idea how much this would cost? If they change the immo unit, do I need to change all keys and locks as well? This is a 10 year old car, that I want to replace in the near future, I don't want to spend a lot of money fixing it.

oh just realised, if your car is a 96, meaning its 10 years old as stated in your profile i doubt very much it will have a transponer unit. sounds like you will need a new immo system, definately a dealer job.
