i know your right Mork but if, as they have, Seat just say no then i'm in for a long battle! To them it seems i'm just one noisy little man and if they keep sayin no long enough i'll just go away! Not sure what my next best move is?

That's probably what their game is, which is a bit of a shocker when you consider how badly this could've turned out...

Which car magazine is it that help people in these circumstances? What Car? Try giving them a ring?

insurance generally doesnt cover mechanical failure.

But wouldn't this come under 'Fire'

As in 'Third Party, Fire, and Theft'

And in any case wouldn't a high moderatey of accidents be caused by mechanical failure? Brake failure, steering failure etc.

Seems like every year insurance goes up and insurers find new ways to not pay you out.

Hope you get it sorted mate, and quick too! I can't imagine how i'd feel if something like that happened to me :(

Pete what have your insurance company actually said regarding the whole issue?. Are they going to pay out?. Are they avoiding it and waiting to see if Seat will cough up?. Shouldn't they be paying you out and chasing up later?. Why are you doing so much of the running around sorting out engineers etc?. I would have thought the fire cover in any policy would cover this event?. Unless your TPO, which I doubt?.

who shall i make cheque out to Mork and can ya have it done by friday???

"if it was my car" :) forgot that caveat

but a short engine won't take long to change, nor cost that much 2nd hand (low mileage)

I had the engine in & out on my cordie on the drive without professional lifting equipment in 3hrs.

Any news on how its going?

Interested to see if you managed to get anywhere with SEAT. From what I understand with warranty agreements, if you modify the standard item your warranty is void. Much the same as opening a newly purchased electrical item to view the internals. It's an easy way for them to worm their slimy, vicious, putrid way out of taking responsibility for anything.

W**kers imo.

Good Luck to you Sir.

Having spoke to another engineer about this while I was at work, (I am an engineer also) there is no president on any car that a DV and hoses has ever caused a rod failure.
The DV simply dumps the internal cylinder pressure down the exhaust, it actually helps prevent mechanical, and DV's are fitted as standard for that very reason. Read this by GGR, it old and about fords but the same things apply.

The oil filter make no difference at all.

The hoses however may be an issues, as I'm not sure exactly what they do for the engine. But the only way they could an issue is if they increase pressure within the cylinder and or it can be proved that they could cause a shook wave. To prove that is impossible without extensive testing and CFD. In short SEAT is talking BS to you.

Basically rod failures tend to be manufacturing defects which happen when making 1000's of them. It only takes a small inclusion or bad tip on a machine tool and the rod is toast.

I hope some of that helps. Also I hope you manage to get it sorted. Your insurance should pick up the tab for you as engine fire is covered in all insurance.

although technically the Insurance company will try and do the same wont they?

as in wriggle out of paying up due to the unclaimed modifications (if they were unclaimed)

and the insurance company will try and do the same that on a technical basis, any modifications on the car during an accident/fire that have not been claimed for therefore make the vehicle void of a valid insurance certificate

however on Seats part, don't they have to "prove" the the modifcations were a cause of the failure, other than that the warranty is still valid with them untill proven otherwise?
