i really think you will have this for a long time then! as much as it has been pampered it has also been tracked? correct?

low milage is only relevant on a classic car ie escort cosworth etc not on a family hatch that is still available from a dealer for the same money and newer specced car! my 2p.

That's fine with me. Let's face it I haven't got my money's worth out of it yet.

And If you really think a 1990's Escort is a classic car, something is badly wrong in your moral compass !?

Also why do all you chaps in Scotland seem to be having a pop ? :(

Not having a pop dude - more like being realistic. Not trying to be nasty or antagonistic.

The fact is we have the same car, Dav you and I. My car is in mint nick, is 60 plate and in Speed Blue with a Tech pack with 9k miles. I honestly think I would be lucky to get £14.5k for mine right now.

The exmaple of the Escort RS Cosworth is correct as it is a rare car now, and a decent 1992 model will easily fetch £20k+. This is because it is rare, because they cannot be bought new, and supply and demand dictates that the stronger example will command better £ value because there is a finite supply of them.

As yours is still a main stream car which you can still buy new, in a more updated form, and because the market is flooded with newer examples with similar miles in similar condition for similar money, your price is very optimisitc when you can have a 2 year newer one with a better spec with similar miles and condition for the same money.

I have a mate in Aberdeen who has a mint VW Golf GTi MK5 with low miles, and he is struggling to get £9.5k for it right now. Its a buyers market and the market is on its ass, petrol is at an all time high as is insurance etc, so people want to make sure they get a bargain.

I hope you get your buyer at £14.5k, but like Dav, I think you will be waiting a hell of a long time.

I second what is said above. Also worth noting the car has been facelifted so does get classed as "an old " model.

Escort Cos is no classic car, just another family hatch.
Nice engine but it's a bloody Ford Escort at the end of the day, not an E-type... Hideous looking thing, lets be honest!

But each to their own...

Escort cossie has a cult following so its become a classic.

Just for reference:

I sold a my candy k1 at 18 months old for 15.6k in sept 2010 with 18,000 miles on the clock.

Nobber sold his 58 candy k1 with 35000 miles stage 2 plus for 13.5k in January.

Wayne then sold his 58 candy k1 also with 35000 miles, stage 2 plus for 14k in march. However that car just had a new gearbox, clutch and front end respray!

A 2007 zenith grey cupra, with stage 2 plus and coilovers, 30k miles also sold in march for 11.5k

Just to add to this. Currently sitting in my local SEAT Arnold Clark dealer, is a pre registered 10 plate(facelift), speed blue leon cupra. At £14'995. And it's been sitting there for a few months now. Can't remember mileage but it was well under 10k anyways. The market is on it's arse lol

I think that this demonstrates the difference between my car and others available, as to need a new clutch and gearbox and respray tells you that car was 'hammered' or maybe 'enjoyed' even for it's mileage.

My car needs no new clutch or gearbox, & has a brand new virgin paint job under the paint shield protection film on front end (put on when new) and hasn't spent more than about 10 nights outdoors ( all during the summer) in its 3 year life. As for comparing my car to anything that Arnold Clark have (a dealer who I have the absolute lowest regard for, from the bitter experience of 2 friends & who seem to dominate the Scottish car Market) is quite absurd.

As for warranty from a dealer, well, we all know what that's worth don't we ?

When I say Mint I Mean MINT!

Thing is, loads of other cars also haven't had a new gearbox and respray. Loads of others have not done a track day like yours has also. Some cars also have a mint paint job and have never once sat outside overnight and are completely and totally standard.

As much as warranty and SEAT customer service can be dubious, its still there and it still works.

You don't need to convince us about how nice your car is - you need to convince the people who are looking to spend £14.5k on a sporty small family car. The chances are they will probably sooner go for something newer, in warranty and probably for something that has not been modified from standard.

Will be interested to see how long this is for sale for - another user on here has his "mint" white facelift 2010 Stage 2+ car on ebay just now because he was stuggling to sell it for ages at £16k or so.

22k lol ... for some stick on badges and slightly different trim / wheels ... no ta.

I would look privately for a garage queen that has had all its bushes greased, dry stored over winter and hasn't a blemish on the paint OR the interior. It won't cost you a penny more to buy but my god will it save you on maintenance .

Fester, at what mileage do the bushes usually go on the S2000 ?

Yes, I hear you, and we all know the market is crap right now, but my point is simply this:
If my car was alongside 2 or 3 others at Arnold Clark and a knowledgable buyer inspected it, it would be no contest. ;)

As I said earlier, If I can't generate a price I feel is justified I will simply keep it, quite happily, I don't actually need to sell, which is why I have priced high. But anyone viewing will not be disappointed, it's the cleanest Cupra on the island!

It's not so much an age thing as an exposure to salt / corrosion and it can be a £1200 job if they're all shot. They need removing, cleaning and greasing on a REGULAR basis and if it's an old UK car that hasn't had regular GEO adjustments then it's a fair bet that a few will be seized. That's fine if everything points in the right direction, less fine if it doesn't.

There are a few good places to get the bushes done.

Garage-R in Barnsley
Centre Gravity who i think are Coventry / Warwick way
Dixon Motorsports in London
Wheels in Motion - Chesham

Al, also remember the words of master Yoda from 'Empire Strikes Back':

"learn you nothing that I teach?"

"Remember your failure in the cave" (Orions)

And Lord Vaders remarks:

"I find your lack of faith disturbing"

For example I'm walking past a AC dealer and see the following....

10 plate White Cupra, approx 20ishk on clock - 15grand
08 plate White Cupra, approx 9k on clock - 15 grand

I for one know which car i would personally pick.

The Only way you will maybe get any decent money is selling private, but again I recon you are going to struggle as there are a lot of newer and better spec'd cars on the market for around the same money as you want.

Maybe that's similar to folks who 'must have a BMW' - i.e. they judge things via pre-conceptions (but in this case, newest=good) even if new is hammered, stone chipped and rusty hubs, etc.

Dealers thrive & encourage this sort of blinkered approach to buying cars.

Use your eyes, folks !
