As above, see if they're any ECU updates for your car and get it sorted that way or ask the remapper to upload the original. I can read the ECU to see what map has been loaded and what exactly had been changed but I won't change it for you as I've only just started to study remapping TDI systems.

Plus I don't have any cover to upload a new map so can't offer guarantee on changes, so I don't do them!

Or if you don't mind a short drive try CCTuning in Burton upon Trent. Chris, the owner, really knows his stuff :)

If you do go CCTuning let us know how you get on, read somewhere they did a mk4 golf to 240bhp with 400lbft or similar... others will prob correct me but nice bhp to torque

100% sure it isnt the EGR valve? If its open when it shouldnt be it could cause all sorts of problems!

Good shout, VCDS should be able to diagnose this.

Engine - Measuring Blocks - 003

Look at MAF Requested and MAF Actual and see if the Actual is alot lower than Requested which suggests the EGR is stuck open.

If Actual is higher than Requested then its stuck shut :)

Personally I'd stick a standard map on it first and see how your car behaves if the fuel consumption returns to normal you can blame it on the map, if not then you will need to get it thoroughly looked at

I'll do as Gaz and Badget recommend and check the EGR valve.

Could it also be the thermostat? My temp guage reads perfect from what I see.

Regarding that Lee, I will have to pay someone to put a standard map on either way so I'm thinking it would just be better to go for another map instead?

I'm really stuck for what to do if it's not the EGR.. I'm not very mechanically savvy

Thing is though unless u go standard map you will never know if your car is ok, you might make it even worse! Sometimes fault finding/modifying you have to take a step back before moving forward and while it may cost it will be still cheaper than a bad map or a remap possibly damaging your engine

I guess I could enquire for a price at PSI to see what they say.. Hopefully they would do me some sort of deal, perhaps knock the price off a future remap if I went back for one (if it solved the issue I would do this)!

Whereabouts in Newcastle? I'm from there too :)

Anyhoo - I had similar problems and it was the rear brakes, they were knackered and sticking slightly. Made a huge difference to my economy!

Hey mate, I'm in Chesterton.

The car was serviced in November and they did report a slight sticking of the rear brake but it doesn't seem to affect the car to me. Could be something to look into though.

I'll run the VCDS EGR check this weekend and see how that goes.

Sorry to go off topic slightly, but do you live on the one-way street running past the high-school?

Give the EGR a check and report your findings :)

Acksaw - which tuner did the map, there is so many of them out there now it would only be fair to say. Apparently there are quite a few less reputable firms starting up that just load maps up that are not sure what they are doing. Many of the big names are then involved with putting right these mistakes.
Best to stick with car how it was sent from factory, any tuning no matter what anyone says will add stress to all the mechanicals of the engine. Hope you get it sorted though, good luck.
I am tempted to tune my car but don't like what it does to the car, tip for anyone looking to tune stick with either REVO or AMD. Two of the biggest most reputable and have pent a lot of money and time developing there products. Don't let a little outfit anywhere near your car unless you feel like gambling...

Yes, that's me! The one with the slightly dented door since my mirror got kicked off but some local tards. I should get that fixed at some point but worried it'll need filling or something. So fun as the passenger side door is off a scrapped car and had to be filled/repainted as a guy at work reversed into it and the original door was broken beyond repair, it's never been quite right since (the door).. Not had much luck with this car eh!

In regards to naming the mappers, I don't think I need to, there are many people that have had no problems with this mapper and I feel naming them would cause trouble and I'd rather avoid any mither to be quite honest.

You live literally around the corner, I walk the dog past your car and into park to cut through to the new reprobate/youth vision center every night.

When I'm back the weekend after next, I'll pop round and scan the car both map and VCDS if your interested. You're only a 2 min walk away :)

Now I'm wondering what road you are on! I know there is a pretty smart silver Leon on one of the roads leading to my street (don't fancy listing streets to randomers on the net :p) but I see you have an Ibiza..

I'll be checking the bits tomorrow but If I get stuck I'm quite happy to let you take a look!! I can always pop around to save you the time.

Lowe, it's quite possible!
