Yes, that's what I believe it is exactly.

Not an amplifier, a stand alone speaker 'playing' a sound (is what I was told by SEAT)

Well they told you wrong cause it would sound so much more wank that way. Ill find an exploded diagram when im back at work.

As far as I have read its just the sound of the engine amplified.

Anyway this is getting a bit off topic so maybe start a new thread if people want to argue about it some more, or do people prefer having this topic hidden in here ha ha

I very much doubt there is an electric speaking playing sound into the cabin.

However the sound from the engine being channeled into the cabin or "aural induction" as some companies call it, is fairly common.

Mazda do it with the MX5 FYI.

There is a speaker. It's under the scuttle panel iirc. Some have had it stop working.

Diagram showing the engine amplifier. This is the second time I have posted this image after some one elses stopped working and they were after the part number.

Quite a few cars have them nowadays, the new Focus ST will have one I read in an article about it a good while ago. It will channel the "good engine sounds" into the passenger cabin but will try subdue/remove the unwanted sounds is the way they put it. Not so much when you hit the throttle an mp3 player in the scuttle pannel starts playing as some others have put.

It is simply a non electrical(in the sense it doesnt play a prerecorded/systhnsised sound) amplifier that opens(?) on hard acceleration.

As for fuel consumption, I was out driving with some like minded friends give our cars a good shake down and I wasnt hanging about and over the night it average 29.9mpg and thats the most I have given it for a sustained period of time. so even on boost its not too bad. Where as my mates 2.4 stilo GP even sat cruising at 70 is costing him 20mpg max! and its plenty slower than my 1000cc smaller car :D Ive got the smallest engine out of my mates but the biggest power/quickest car mwahaha

Well so far I'm just under half a tank after doing 202milles and its showing that I have 85 miles left to go. Was hoping for better than this as I have been driving it like a bitch with only the odd foot down moment. Wonder if it gets better after the engine has been run in more?? The cars done 2800 miles so far.....

I find that of I fill to brim I can if I drive carefully get 205 miles before it drops below half. But half gives me a furthur 160 miles. The extra mileage on the first half would include what is in the filler pipe.

Thats not bad actually. How much miles has your car done if you don't mind me asking Ed?

Btw, does anybody know why the Polo GTI average fuel consumption figure is so much better than that of Cupra (5,9 l/100km against 6,4 l/100km)??

I've wondered that myself. Possibly the Cupra is lower geared. I've been able to find the gearing for the Cupra but not for the GTi so I don't know.

In every other case where there is a similar model, Ibiza and Polo, the figures are the same or very similar. This applies to 60 PS 3 cylinder, 70 PS 3 cylinder, 85 PS 4 cylinder, 1.2 litre diesel, 1.2 diesel ecomotive/bluemotion, 90 PS 1.6 litre diesel (not available in the UK), 105 PS TSi is similar except even though the gearbox is different.

The polo may weight a bit less, do the polos not now run the same 185PS ECU set up that the Audi A1's run? Where as the Cupra and vRS have 180ps?

My info. says Polo 1269 kg., Ibiza 1259 kg and both of them 180 PS at 6200 rpm, 250 nm torque.
All my info. is for 2011 model year.

BTW the economy of the Fabia vRS is quoted as better than Ibiza, worse than Polo - all rather odd.

Well Just got 278 miles out of that tank but with me blasting around the last 10 miles as I couldn't take the slow ass driving any longer.

Just filled up today again and managed to squeeze in 53 litres so lets see how this goes.

If I put £80 of VPower in I can usually get about 450-500ish miles with a mixture of blasting and long country roads. Venting means that I can go a couple of weeks without fueling. I usually get about 42mpg during the week and 38 on the weekend. It got much better after a good 10000 miles.

can I ask how urs is with oil and if it was any different from when you first got the car? mines is gettig through it quite quick. even when I picked it up from dealership they forgot to top it up and it was bone dry on the dipstick! mines has only done 2800 miles though so maybe it will calm down?

Mine is only 1000 miles old today and I'm getting between 38-42mpg, steady driving, including traffic (stop starting)

Looking to get 400 mile this tank without venting and using shell regular unleaded.

Does the inside of the fuel filler not say it should run super juice?
I'm not being that heavy footed and am only getting a 30mpg avg atm.
