Still think you have a gear cutting the belts Danny...
2 belts on the same motor , then its not the belts.
and that is a gates belt. A belt that has been in testing for over 2 years.

Feel for you Dan, have you any idea what caused it ?
Any damage known yet ? You gonna replace the belt and check compression or just pull the head off and check ?

You running a standard tensioner set-up or a manual one ?

Gutted for you bud but chin up, it'll be worth it im sure.

Terrible news after such a lot of hard work

It must be heartbreaking having to deal with all of this, it just seems to be one thing then another from the Ibiza to now.....

Is it time to do the prep and drop it off to a specialist to finish setting up? - Get them to sort the timing, mapping etc and check everything is OK?

You get a recepit, piece of mind and at least have some guarrantee against workmanship fault etc.

Dan, i had a read back through your thread and when your mechanic friend left the allen key in the belt, you found pieces of pulley in the bottom...
At the time you weren't sure what they were - did you ever change that lower crank pulley - i only ask as when i was removing mine (original one so heating it up / hammering the bolt the pulleys inside edge broke off into pieces like your pics (page 74 ish if i remember right)
Those pics were 100% pieces of the lower crank pulley.

Because of the way the pulleys break (there undercut) they loose about 5mm - 10mm of the width of the pulley but they break accurately just leaving a narrower pulley.... to the untrained eye (or if the engines in it's very hard to see) the pulley might look ok but if it's too narrow then bad times..... if you didn't change it maybe the belt was running on and off the edge which can cause a knick then snap.

Just thinking out loud trying to piece together why this might of happened....

Good on you to get cracking and not sink into despair bud.

Personally though I would try and rule out things to stop it from happening again i.e maybe take the OEM cam belt tensioner outta the equation by fitting a manual Integrated Engineering one on & New idler pulley on, check the water pump is nice and free no play in the bearings & New lower pulley (if you didn't already).

Good luck bud.

Aww mate!
Im gutted for you!
As quite a few people have said, instead of going through the ball-ache of DIY'ing and chancing it going wrong again. I'd hand it over to a specialist so that you get a receipt and get her back on the road with peace of mind.. Im not having a pop, because i know you are **** hot at what you do and what you have acheived alone with the Leon..
I just hope there isnt any damage..

kinda agree and disagree

while the money spent buying both the ibiza and leon and modding both could of seen him buy a big power car say 12k rs4, you cant beat the feeling of accomplishment when you have built something,

just a shame and part of the risky game of modding engines i suppose
