are come on james, your :gay: hurry up, thought you was a pro at the painting thing? obviously not

more pics...

todays progress...

here are the two parts i sprayed gloss black today...

CopyofDSC01843.jpg

i will fit these 2mo as well as the rest of the dash kit.

a pic of the dash kit (which imo is good quality! has a 5 year guarenty  )

CopyofDSC01848.jpg

and as a taster, a pic of the driver vent...

CopyofDSC01850.jpg

I fitted the vent covers and the glove box handle cover tonight.

i thought it best to wait until 2mo once the painted parts have dried and are refitted before i try and fit the main dash kit parts, as the last thing i wanted to do was scratch the dash kit with the head unit when i refit it with the colour coded autoleads facia! ;) (plus the paint isnt hard enough yet!)

I will post up more pics 2mo, cant wait as i know it will look wicked!

Be nice to see the difference between the painted and stick on bits as the ones ive seen look very "stuck on" so i was tepmted to spary mine

Is it easy to remove the Air Vent trims ?

i believe so, just pull them out... however if u were to spray them you would have to cover up the white bits and the actual vent assuming you only wanted to spray the surround bit! A LOT of hassle! :(

My dash kit...
Was actually thinking of gettin that kit for just the window and vent covers... but may just give them the same treatment as the rest of my dash...

Laquered just a few times... lol

see i cant be arsed to go to that much hassle!

im surprised u didnt do the air vents too whilst you were at it!

Arhh james the answer was posted up... the vents dont come apart easy... and plus i want to get hold of the R versions or at least teh S3 ones, so it has the hint or red which i seem to have a theme of in my car at the mo i think.... lol

The Door cards are being sprayed as we speak to... the same treatment as the dash, smoothed and glossy, then cloth inserts changed to the same red as the seats....
Should look nice once finished, just need to find the rocking horse poo parts now... two R32 front seats... to be retrimmed in the same fashion as the existing.

EDIT:
By the way your right the dash smoothed like that took me collectively a week to sand down and prime before the top spray coat. That leather look plastic is tough as old boots!! lol

But hopefully, i should be the same leaque as RobDon but of the Diesel team..... next is Allard tuning to the 280bhp/390lbs of torque
Funny the car is only year and half old... and dot think theres many parts from that first day on it still... maybe just the paint colour.. lol

Jeesus, when you going down there? what you having done? injectors and a vt5 or vt7 turbo?

i fancy the idea of spraying my plat grey lcr interior grey might be overkill so im goin with the ali look, Looking good james

Looking at Vt5 at the mo, vt7 is to tight on the power band.... plus the spool up on the Vt5 is quicker.... plus the propane, IC spray etc.
Looking at about 260ish at first then working with Allards to squeeze "safely" another 20odd and few more lbs of torque....

When is the question... basically when i save up the remain funds and somehow break it to the missus another 3 grand on the engine....
Jsut finsihed spending 10k in a year on bits 4k of which was on engine mods.. clutch, suspension, ATB Diff, CAI, brakes... the list goes on....lol

Anyway back to topic in hand... James we need more pics... lets have a gander at the window switchs and stuff...:D

pics will be up laters... well il be fitting it laters and then shooting off to the hearts meet so i hope i get time, otherwise 2mo! ;)

as for the window switch, the dash kit doesn't come with that cover, so i thought id spray it... i took it out but noticed if i sprayed it i would have to cover up the electric door mirror markings/knob and also if i sprayed the window switch surrounds id then want to spray the door handles too to set it all off... and i wasn't too sure and couldn't be arsed so i thought do what i originally planned, see how it looks and then if i want to do the window switches and door handles i then can! :)

cheers! :)

as for the ali look... i did consider this, but imo i think it may cheapen the dash look (look almost tacky!) where i think what i am doing will pass as OEM! ;) (ok u can get OEM silver dash kit but still! i guess i simply dont like it! :()

Well mate, if your lucky to be at the same time as i do mine, you can chuck them my way and I'll spray them up for you, bodyshop is spraying all the door pulls, the door cards and plastic bits... so urs thrown in wouldnt change the price for me.. and you get a pro job with plasticised paint... e.g will flex with the plastic in heat, unlike the halfords that crack in the first sign of flex...lol Trust me on that, i know, fitted the glovebox 3 times due to cracking paint...

cheers! :)

When I did mine everyone who saw the kit thought it was OEM and those that knew it was an add-on at meets etc all thought it looked good.....

I was always pleased with the kit myself

Anyone here ever thaught of Carbon Fibre ?

I also think the little plastic tabs to adjust the air vent directions are SH*TTY...

I think the AUDI A3 has some black ones with a thin chrome trim...

Would look cool...

Great job there by the way...

I admire your effor... and patience...

A few people have swapped the vents for the Illuminated newer A3 vents which do look quite cool, have a search about. The only issue is getting a power feed to them.

EDIT PIC ADDED of Robdon's car more info at http://www.leonturbo.co.uk/index.html NOTE Illuminated Audi Side vent

Carbon Fibre can look great but stick on stuff can look a bit 'Max Power' which is why I went for Piano Black......I am sure they did a carbon look but I was worried it would look 'cheap'

As Rudd suggested Carbon is cool idea as long as its fabricated and not stuck on.. and to fabricate it, is expensive, to expensive to mass produce in a small market...
I thought about fabricating "parts" of the dash in carbon fibre using a company i know, but even then i was told its too complex and expensive to be worth it.

So piano black it was.. and to be honest even at my stage of painting, people still get into the car as say is that an extra at the factory....?
