Here is a response from someone on ebay thats selling one of these :

Hi, you can use the flasher to read your own file and save it to your hard-drive for editing, edit it and then re-flash with your new file. There is some supplied software for editing maps but I don't know how good it is. I would recommend getting some proper map editing software. Hope this helps.

So is that why the KWP2000 can only tune the VAG diesels then? And is that why there are tuners on ebay that will only do the diesels?

If a tuner only tunes cars using the edc15 ECU for example the 100, 115, 130, 150 and 160 BHP cars then they may well just be using an ecu flasher. What you should be more worried about is the software they are uploading!

A tuner remapping EDC16 ECU's as used in 105, 140 BHP cars is using quality equipment and this cxan also remap the newer 3.0 TDI engines etc. Oh and also the 1.8 T and the new 2.0t as found in Golf GTI etc

Can anyone point me in the right direction of some PD130 files to have a look at. Just out of curiosity, any PD130 file (tuned or standard) will do...

If it is written via the obd port then its not scrambled in any way. Even if an old style encryption board was used and soldered in place you would still be able to read via the obd and see the file that the ecu needs to be able to operate properly (ie unencrypted)
A lot of the larger tuning companies encrypt the files that the dealers use and the specific tuner hardware/software programmer decrypts this file as it is being programmed.

The copying of tuners files is quite rife out there and will no doubt get much worse as the tools of the trade are being sold cheaper and cheaper.

Carlo, just checked some of my recent vag-com engine module logs and the 038 number is at the top of the logfile.
