just had a read of the new evo mag, I like the way they say the cupra had focus old school personality, I would definatelt agree. one thin though why does evreyone get the cupras weight wrong. it says 1248kg which makes it 145bhp per tonne .this makes it the heaviest of the 4. im pretty sure it it weighs 1170kg and 155bhp per tonne which is in the brochure. Am i right?

You could be right, but I think evo tend to add weight of driver and fuel to make the figures more accurate for 'real world' conditions??

I see that you live in dartford, is the WJ king seat dealer the closest one to you or is there another one around the south east of london?

If you ask the guys on service who the most regular SEAT is Im confident it'll be a black cupra TDI :hide:

Too many trackdays :(

My first car was a Mini Cooper (not an S) and in terms of safety they are AMAZING!!! I was involved in an accident where the mini was hit by an articulated kingsmill lorry (massive thing) side on and the lorry was doing approx 50MPH (on an unknown road and overshot a junction straight into its path) the car spun, hit a high kerb and flipped twice (hardly much left of it) however me and my friend both got out with just minor bruising and a single cut to my finger...they also have BMW refinement and next to zero in depreciation!

Renault Clio 197 nice looking car....but as every top gear survey finds (compiled by the owners) French cars ALWAYS without fail fill the bottom 10 places, reliability issues (too many electronics?) and cheap plastics usually are the main factors!

Vauxhall Corsa VXR...ok the car looks quite nice but I still always think of Neds/Chavs when someone mentions one and not before long the first cheapy body kits will get bolted onto them.

Seat Ibiza 1.8T....now i'm not going to get involved in the petrol/derv argument, but there’s no faulting the 1.8T engines one of VAG groups finest. Why the Ibiza always comes bottom on these lists I’ll never know! You get one of the best engines VAG have ever made, you get a great fun drive and you don’t see them with every corner you turn (unlike previous mini, corsa and Clio). Yes the chassis is getting a bit old now, but considering it’s up against brand new chassis cars (think even the mini had a slight tweak) it performs pretty well (I think they should have taken into account the imminent replacement). Yes some of parts aren’t up to normal VAG standards (IMHO) and there are 1 or 2 niggling problems you get (rear washer hose etc...) but the car is refined, good fun and excellently priced for the amount of kit you get. Depreciation is a bit of a problem however, but i’m sure like previous models the corsa and Clio will experience the same.

My order would be:

1. Mini Cooper S
2. Seat Ibiza 1.8T
3. Renault Clio 197
4. Vauxhall Corsa VXR

Soz for the long post but feel free to agree with or criticise any area you feel appropriate.

sounds dead reasonable ive never driven a mini on the road but handling obviously is the winning factor im not a fan of the syling tho! there is no way the 1.8 20vt belongs in 18th out of 20 hatchbacks :wtf:

I cant believe they changed the engine of the new cooper s to a turbocharged one, I would of thought the supercharged engine attracted more buyers. Its a nice engine, I drove the cooper s works (210bhp) for a day and it was great although you couldn't just poddle around, it was all power at once or nothing. you couldn't relax in it

I read this and was also confused by the 3.5 star rating; they seem to be getting along great with the Ibiza up until the 'crucial' star ratings. I also thought it interesting that they describe the 180 20vt Cupra as being 'devoid of soul' in the back of the magazine but praised it for having personality in the group test. Strange.

Does anyone else think they should have tested a yellow one? All the other cars had lairy colours...

I am slightly worried about myself though, that new Corsa looks pretty nice. I swore I'd never ever buy a Vauxhall...

No I agree; I wouldn't have a Mini simply because there are far too many of them. I saw five in a row go into the local Saisbury's while I was at a set of lights the other day. The Clio is nice but I'd prefer a 182, but then I couldn't live with the retro interior. Which leaves me with a Vauxhall or a SEAT. Perhaps I'm a victim of brand loyalty and marketing, this is my third one...

The magazines are weird and inconsistent. My ibiza runs rings all my mates similiarily powered cars, infact after having a ride in it they are all very impressed. Most people under-estimate SEAT's.

Just remeber though the ibiza won what cars' car of the year back in 2005.

Cupras are rare. Since getting my car Ive seen quite a few normal ibizas, but only two FR's and one Cupra.

I see that you live in dartford, is the WJ king seat dealer the closest one to you or is there another one around the south east of london?

the SEAT dealership in Sidcup is my closest one, dont no of any others! didnt even no that one existed until my mum told me about it.

Does anyone else think they should have tested a yellow one? All the other cars had lairy colours...

I am slightly worried about myself though, that new Corsa looks pretty nice. I swore I'd never ever buy a Vauxhall...

the silver colour of the ibiza didnt do it any favours, did look quite plan and boring...sorry to all you people who have that colour, dont mean anything bad by it, just when compared the the clio, corsa and mini, looked like the odd one out! the yellow would have been a lot better

my mate is getting the new corsa vxr....has been given a date of 31st may for collection. was quite surprised to see that therw wasnt much in it bewteen the vxr and the ibiza! think he will be surprised that he cant get away from me which i wud of expected! :D

i personally liked the clio, did consider getting one when i was looking for a new car, but having had a saxo previosuly, i knew what french reliability was like first hand and i wasnt impressed! but had my heart set on an ibiza and was going to take a lot for me to change my mind

i dont really go by what people say in the car magazines though about cars, as people have said, everyone seems to say something different, and/or one minute they like it, and as Evo did, give it a poor rating. [:@]

have taken a fair few number of people out in my car and they have all been pleased with it and think it handles and brakes really well, and some have even been surprised how well it can hold its own against other cars! people just think of its just an ibiza....then next thing they know is i've gone off and left them behind eating my brake lights, or to find me clued to their rear bumper and being uanble to shake me!!
