all this faff.... is it actually worth the hastle. I cannot see it been £45 worth of performance tbh. ok it lets more air in but really its still been restricted by the MAF. CAnnot make the MAF bigger. I was going to buy a green panel filter and a PD160 air intake but dont think it will make much difference... not £80 (inc filter) worth of diff. any other opinions?

It's recognised usually as the first stage of a performance upgrade before going to a remap, when you will see the full benefits I believe. Buy the bits secondhand and you will be paying half this. And it doesn't cost anything to remove the flap in the adaptor to allow more air to enter the intake.

As I have mentioned in an earlier thread the only way to check whether it actually works is to get the BHP/torque figs checked out as standard, and then with the upgrade. If you don't, maybe it's more psychological.

I have done this conversion, but I feel that maybe without the remap the freeflow panel filter seemed to make more of a difference than the intake. But I have followed other people's recommendations on this one.

Other threads also mention less smoke from a diesel.

totally agree mate. be nice to have hard evidence rather than peoples minds making decisions weather it is better etc

but totally agree

I added the PD160 intake and a green filter to my Ibiza PD130 ages ago, and have the following comments to make:

1) It won't really increase power. But it makes the engine slightly more responsive, and quite a few people (myself) included found it made the engine smoother to drive on light throttle / around town (a bit like people have found when doing the EGR mod, see other thread).

2) If the new intake rubs against the small diameter water pipe. You don't want to leave it like this, these engine move around a huge amount, and the last thing you want is a pipe rubbing through a few months after you're forgotten about it. On mine, I slackened the clips on the small water pipe, and rotated the pipe slightly to a position where it wasn't touching the intake. Then released the clips. If I remember correctly (don't have the car any more) the clips are the type with sprung tabs that need squeezing together with pliers or molegrips to release.

2) Thanks for this. Yes I will need to take some action with the water pipe. Wasn't sure what to do with these clips in case I bent them (used to the jubilee clips in the past), but will certainly do this now. They are the ones where the tabs are squeezed together.

right just got back lol and a mind blowing drive tbh it is just incredable the difference when just make sure u have suitable suspension and breaks next for sure is going to be the rear arb!

Still just touches even with rotating the small pipe, but only lightly rubs now.

Problem is, where it connects to the larger hose at the bottom via a T-piece, the T-piece is angled towards the intake, so it's in the 1 o'clock position. At the other end of the t-piece is the larger hose. I'll have to somehow squeeze both clips together and at the same rotate the T-piece to the straight up-and-down 12 o'clock position. Another pair of hands needed then!

That should do it.

in what way was it increadable

many... it does change the caracteristics of the engine, picks up better, revs a little easier, better responce. at the end of the day im glad i brought a k&n for my car. i did a 0-100 sprint (down a road i know) i got to 100 about the same place as i did before but it seemed like i got there alot quicker than before i did 10 miles in less than 10 mins, going down b roads, stopping, startin, over speed humps, 30 limits etc.. im just overwelmed with my car and im so glad i brought it :)

yes but their is always a bottle neck on the inlet. and we are talking about the ibiza

Yeah I was taking about the ibiza aswell!!! You can swap MAF's from the leon onto the ibiza (need to for BT conversion). What bottle neck? Ibiza MAF 2.5" TIP is 2.5" my dynatwist is 2.5", ducting is 2.5" connected to the bumper with is rectangle so.....What bottle neck?

Can you mark on the picture where you think this bottle neck is

^^when you go bigger turbo ^^ ive got a leon tdi maf and ibiza tdi airbox as they have bigger air outlets = more airflow!

i tied a few cable ties around the rubber pipe - that way it's the plastic of the cable tie which is actually touching the pd160 tube, and the rubber is protected
