I'm pretty sure I used alcohol and cotton buds to clean both contacting surfaces. Its not as bad a job as I expected it to be. The link that Klawit put up originally to pics on the German forum were really handy. If i didn't thank you before Klawit, thank you very much mate!:thumbup:

I started this particular thread at the start of the year and took the advise and cleaned the contacts with success.

Just recently the cruise control failed to connect after i hade stopped briefly at my local DIY store. At first I thought not dirty contacts again this soon. I had an idea and still on the move put the car in neutral, turned off the engine, carfull not to lock the steering, then restarted. Solution cruise control working again. It has done it again and the same solution cured the problem. I put it down to the same reason that my PC does not always boot up clean, picky electronics showing who's boss. I can't see it can be anything else other than the ECU or similar booting up. Happy days.

Very risky though to knock a car off on the move! My father smashed up his new fiesta years ago just rolling it down the drive without power :redface:

@Mike5

No need for that hazardous action while in motion ... same effect happens, after you've parked the car and start the engine (i.e. ECU) up again.

It's like you said: "rebooting" (restarting/checking all connections) is most likely the reason for picking up the functions from the cruise control (CC) again .... but then, as soon as there is a loss of contact just for a split second, the ECU get's informed about a non-funcional CC and refuses working with it any longer ... until you restart again.

So afaik it'll only help to keep the contacts clean and flexible, so that they always remain in tight contact.

hi ive stripped mine today to try and sort before I go to cornwall and have noticed my circuit board is soldered onto all 5 or 6 wires there isn't no plug connecting it like in your pictures , anyway ive tried the cleaning on the circuit board it was black , I used wet and dry and got them up nice and shiny but it still doesn't work , theres no voltage on the wires it only shows some resistance on the up and down buttons , mines a 2006 2.0 tdi sport what else can I try , is there a fuse for the cc

I gave up using mine serveral years back. It use to clear itself then re-occur and I'd worry it would be picked up on a service then they would charge to fix. It was good for those average speed check spots but I've succeeded not to get done on them by following lories that have better equipment.

I never took it apart but it sounds like its been cooked. I'd be careful on pulling fuses in the engine compartment I messed up my airbag warning light doing that. Suspect the underdash ones are fine. The AC main one I'm always pulling it in extremes of weather when the AC packs up, needs a reboot. Fuse is under dash.

Anyhow yes I recall it would work at the start of a journey and then pack up inline with what Klawit said above.
