On my private roads brad we cut 2inches off ur crash bad and some of ur chassi leg sod that on a high performace car its ok on those slow soot machines but all I'm saying if you got the cash spend it on forge forge aint a waste its an investment as you will be able to sell it on . What's 500quid at the end of the day .. Peanuts with all tried tested and proper gear top quality service etc no what I would do and choose .. Or get the e bay one and one of those super resistors that give you a 100bhp increase lol

Cut just over an inch actually The chassis leg wasnt cut, the little metal hanger under the headlight was cut away to allow the pipe to come through. My crash bar needed to be cut to allow the intercooler to sit in the position it is. Oh and the oem crash bar is slightly thicker than the one forge supply too. Robdon prefers the eBay cooler over the forge cooler, and performance is exactly the same according to him, and hes running more power and bigger turbo than your small k04's

I modified my crash bar and my slam panel......its prob twice as strong as it was before.

£680 for a forge kit

£2-250 to do it yourself.

I know what i would rather choose, for the price of a forge one, you can get a universal one and a stage 2 map for the price, maybe a exhaust too

Where did you get 680 from ? I paid 510 for exactly the same intercooler over 2years ago ! Supprising when you e mail them ask what's there best price . . So I was half inch out whoops . I no what iwas cut its the chassi leg bracket I cut the thing for you lol . . . Depends on ur money situatuon at the end of the day . I believe buy cheap by twice . Peace of mind and all that nonsense

I got £680 as the price for mine.....and I was wrong its £632

£510 is is still quite a bit more than £200.............I guess it depends how confident you are with the spanners at the end of the day, I'd rather spend a day making my own stuff then pay someone else for a bolt on kit.

The forge one has a modified bar as does mine.....I'd personally say mine was stronger than standard.

I do agree its not a good idea cutting bits off if your doing nothing to replace the strength tho.....

I see what you're all saying and Dan, you share my view on buy cheap buy twice totally which is why I am leaning significantly towards Forge. However I would enjoy building my own, learning as I go and knowing how to fix things if anything did go wrong but the whole bolt-on aspect from Forge works well for me, giving me total freedom to put it back to OEM if I sold it and like Dan says, sell the Forge parts on for some extra cash + lifetime warranty.

Anyway, enough of the Custom vs Factory war ...any more pros and cons of going FMIC over the two SMICs?

Oooo tasty although i'd have to lose the fog lamps. I was thinking about creating a custom twin air feed if I did lose the foglamps. I have a pretty good one from the OEM location as it is but I want to join another section of pipe to it that goes to the foglamp so would create x2 the cold air going through the same pipe essentially.

To be fair, im choosing and saying go custom, basically cause i have and maybe thats biased, but i learned alot from it (with help from dan s1 pru ) and would indeed help me with future cars if i choose to do custom etc. Also i had to go custom route because no one physically makes a bolt on kit for a mark 1 leon tdi, forge were suppose to be using my car as a donor car (back in february) but kept putting me off and delaying me, in the end i decided to do it myself What ever option you choose, im sure you will be happy, if you do decide to go custom, give me a shout, ill be willing to help

Universal 2.5" cooler you dont need to cut anything.

When you say 2.5",is that thickness of the intercooler or the pipework diameter you'd need?

would this universal one be ok for LC(i know it does say it's for the 1.8T) just wondered if anyone had had one of these?
