Remove the DV from the car.
Push the piston up inside the DV, use a pen or screwdriver.
Put you finger over the small vacume pipe on the top.
Release the piston.
Forge say it should drop by about 5mm, if it's more than this then it nneds a service.

what colour spring do you use? probally quite a strong one looking at your sig.

Its a diaphram APR R1 valve but its about the same as the green. In my case the turbo can be damaged by the valve operating too fast creating a shock to the turbo, (think of a slamming door).

The standard turbos are more resilliant to this but id still try to get away with the softest.

im guessing some people have to replace the spring as the spring probally becomes weaker with age making it open sooner.
all the time mine is working fine i think i shall stick with it i dont want to maybe create problems by replaceing somthing which is working well.

just replaced mine with the yellow spring and its much better.

the slightest little lift of the throttle would result in it dumping boost off, even around town it was doing it.

from having both springs the difference is huge you can still squeeze them with your fingers but the yellow is slightly stronger.

all mine needed to solve the problem :)

just checked my DV (green spring, and its off the car) and it seems to move a bit more than 5mm but wheen checking, there does seem to be quite a bit of tension on the spring so i am assuming its fine.

i'll need to try the pressure test at the weekend as i just fitted my 007p (with green spring that looks a bit worn - not much green paint left on it) and Jetex cone last night and it's dumping well but on throttle i'm getting a constant air leak sound when the turbo is spooling

i've never heard another LCR with this setup yet and i know you will hear the turbo spool more with an open cone filter but it just doesn't sound right to me

mine has a yellow spring in, but looks a little worn as you said about yours and the noise does not sound right on spool up at the mo seems a little noisy and inconsistant, let me know how you get on buddy

will do mate, i've checked all of the hose connections so i know it's not to do with any of that and i wasn't getting any sort of noise (even a faint leak noise) when i had the airbox in so the only thing i can think is the DV, saying that it 'could' just be normal

was just expecting more of a spooling/whistling noise rather than an escaping pressurised air noise

mine was the same with the green, but then im mapped, not sure if that makes a difference.

swapped to yellow and it cured the problem, not had any problems still dumps when lifting off, now theres a bit extra clamping pressure :)

:)

cheers tubby, well mine is standard apart from the DV, Jetex cone and N249 bypass

you'll be running more boost so i guess the problem would have been exaggerated and i think in most cases the yellow spring is meant for remapped cars only

If you want to see if it is leaking, one way to test is temporarily pop off the hose from the top of your DV and take it for a spin, this has the same effect as putting a very stiff spring in your DV. Should notice that you dont hear the leaking noise under hard throttle.

One important thing to note though, is that the DV may not open when you release the throttle, which is bad for the turbo, so to minimize damage, come off the throttle slowly so the pressure does not get loaded back on the turbo. And obviously don't drive it like this for longer than necessary!

cheers Si that would be spot on, i'll test it on sat and go from there

leon cupra r - by doing that i take it that would just tell me that the spring is at fault ?

i actually got a yellow spring with the DV aswell so i might try that out first (after pressure testing it), the yellow spring looks pretty worn aswell (hardly any paint on it but i was told the DV is no more than 6 months old so i'm not sure if it's just a common problem with the paint coming off on them and they should be fine)

Yeah will just tell you if you need a stiffer spring - if you dont get the same leaking sound with this test then it shows that normally the DV is opening under load... mine used to do this on green spring until i uprated to yellow spring... starting to do it again now as well, think the spring is loosing its ridgidity!
