Hi Guys

I'm looking for a Front Brake upgrade for my FR.:)

I am aware the FR has 312mm x 25mm Vent.Discs as standaed and the Cupra comes with 345mm x 30mm Vent.Disc's.
I am assuming the Cupra is a 4-Pot Caliper?
Does anyone know if this would fit straight onto my FR, it has 18's?
If yes, does anyone know how much?
I contacted Brembo direct, but they didn't get back to me.
I also contacted AP Racing and they have outlined the kit below.

"The AP Racing kit has been designed using similar components as used in our Golf MkV GTi kit.
4-piston caliper with a Ø330x28mm disc with alloy bell centres, braided hose, Ferodo DS2500 pads, high temp fluid, all fixings.
Instructions to mount and operate the kit are also included.
Fitting time 2 hours.
Kit Caliper details on
http://www.apracing.com/roadcar/caliper/data.asp?family=CP5200

Kit Part # CP5200-1070:
With black caliper finish list price of kit £1438.15 + vat.

Kit Part # CP5200-1070R2:
With red caliper finish list price of kit £1458.03 + vat.

Estimate the kit will be available early mid to late June 07".

Has anyone got this upgrade yet?
Can anyone make any other Brake Upgrade recommendations?

Obviously, the standard Cupra set up is bigger, but what would give the better Braking Performance?

Am I the only person dissapointed that the Front Calipers of the Cupra don't have Brembo written on them like the original prototype did?

Please help................

The Cupra setup is identical to the New S3 and R32. ts 345mm yes, but its single piston!
Some People have rated this setup better than the 4pot brembos that came with the Cupra R Mk1. Certainly a cheap upgrade if you want those brakes.

I have the AP racing six pot setup from the MkV GTi. This is 330mm, but thats more than enough size really.

This is ideal as it fits stright onto our cars without adaption or modification. I find them worthwhile as I do alot of trackdays. How come you are looking to upgrade?

If you don't mind me asking, how much & where did you get them?
And did you say 6-Pot?

Yes they are 6 piston.

I got them second hand off someone selling his MkV GTi with them on so no where near the price of new mate :)

Do you have any idea of prices?
I'm shocked the Cupra only has a single piston Caliper, what were Seat thinking?.

Now i'm even more confused.
I asked AP Racing to let me know the Biggest kit they did for our car and they suggested the 4-Pot kit outlined above.
(And your now telling me they do a 6-Pot kit that fits straight on)
Do you know if it is a 6-pot caliper on the R32?

As said above, The New R32, S3 and cupra all have identical brake setup. 345mm Single piston. This is more than capable. As Someone who has upgraded from a Mk1 Cupra R to a Mk2 Cupra and they will tell you the brembos are no better than these brakes.

The six pots I have are for the Golf MkV GTi, (But they fit perfect on all the MkV based cars such as the Leon)

Could be a good value brake upgrade then by the sounds of it, price depending as I know the Cupra brakes are much better speaking from experience... might not be quite as good as the AP's though ;)

My Brake Upgrade Research continues.......

I will post the results from my enquiries as soon as everyone I have harassed gets back to me.

Dan, have you tried both the Cupra brakes and your AP Racing set up?

I have been looking at these posts with some intrest although the cost of upgrading would seem to be very high. The brakes on the FR are not as good as the Altrea Fr I test drove, by a long way. In the past I have gone for a softer pads which have worked well although not nessary for long hard braking - ie track days. Has anyone fitted a softer compound pads and if so was it any better than the org.

Redstuff are pretty good. Have a search on the forum and you will see peoples views. DS2500 are much better, but im not sure they do ones that fit these brakes yet.

my dealer quoted silly money for the new cupra setup, i have checked other suppliers for aftermarket and there isn't much going about as i was considering getting better discs and pads @ the same size as the oem setup with some braided hoses as well, as i wanted to partake in some trackdays but couldn't afford 1k for a big setup.

EBC pads are pants. I wouldnt even put them on a push bike, let alone a car.

Mintex, Pagid, Ferodo and Performance Friction are the only ones I'd use.

I've used both Ferodo DS2500, P.F. Z rated and 83compounds on my AP 6 pots (not on the seat yet) on track and the DS2500 and 83's are about the same, no fade at all. The Z rated are more of a street pad, but still lasted a good 15-20 laps of Dono and a heavier car (Subaru).
