Having the aircon on or off made no difference to my fuel consumption... So I now leave it on all the time. I can't see the point in turning it off.

External ambient temperature has a major effect on mpg. In the colder months the mpg takes a hit.... Then in the summer it goes back up.

Over a year in my LC I averaged 27.4mpg now getting 44.1mpg in the ibiza over the same route. Thats with taking fill to fill measurements. The estimate by the on board computer thing is worse than useless...

Not sure what the norm is for similar commutes (?) but my FR TDI has just clocked 7k and I've been getting around 38-40 mpg (filling up at approx 440 miles) on a 30 mile round commute on a mixed bag of roads. Although more recently I've been less frugal and only managed to squeeze around 390 miles off a full tank!!

Like others, I've not noticed any difference with/out the air con. :)

i find the onboard computer a pest
first week i had the car when it got to 1/4 full with supposedly 50 miles left it beeped at me, filled it up and it only took 35 litres (55 litre tank).

Since then it just doesnt beep until about 25 miles now and when the needle is almost rock bottom.

i usually gauge it by miles as to when its time to fill up

I drive sensibly, but not entirely slowly.

I normally get around 500 miles from my car after putting in £40

Never actually filled it yet I dont think !

I get about 250 miles to a tank if I'm commuting out of Bristol everday, stuck in traffic and then caning down country lanes.
When I take it down to Cornwall for the weekend I get about 350 -380 miles from a tank.
That's in an LC
The bet tip for keeping fuel costs down that I have is to share lifts to work, I share with two colleagues and now spend about £500 less a year on petrol than I used to.

I always got 280 miles to a full tank in my S3 :( One of the reasons I take the train to work every day!
Hope the Scoob is better on the juice (but I know it won't be!!)
