Changing the USB port with the new E rev. ( 5Q0 035 726 E) is needed if you are iPhone user. Android Auto and mirrorlink is running and with the old USB port but if you want to use apple Car Play you have to change it. All VAG use the same ports, mine is from Octavia MK3 - second hand.

Any idea what the difference is? Curious as to why this is needed and why it doesn’t come by default.

I suspect that cars built with the ability to have Full Link activated, such as yours, had the incorrect or early USB port, whereas cars that had Full Link activated from factory, like mine (2016 MY), had the later USB port which works fine with Car Play and Android Auto.

I can activate full link remotely for cars which have navigation function. I do FEC code injection. Cheaper than buying a license. Result is same. For details you can send me a PM.

I think I paid £120 for mine activating. It’s worth every penny. I use Car Play only, but have heard great things about Android Auto.
I have a 2015 ST and it turned out that the USB port didn’t support Full Link. I think it was a low speed port (maybe usb1.1) and they had to swap it for a high speed port (presumably usb 2.0). It was the first time the dealer had encountered that issue so they supplied and fitted the new port free of charge.
Thanks I'll get onto nearest seat dealer and check it out

Dealer I bought it from just informed me yesterday that they'll do the full link free of charge! Only problem is they're along way from me, still very good of them,

Okay Sorry what is FULL LINK ACTIVATION and what does it benefit over Android Auto.
I have it but do not use it whatever it does.

Full link is disabled in some cars by factory and it can be activated later with a payment. So it is a paid function. It moves your phone screen to car's screen and you can talk with siri or google voice by pressing and holding voice command button on steering wheel. So you can just say "call my home" and it will make a call. You can start navigation using google maps, waze or apple maps. You can play music using Apple Music, Spotify or any other compatible music apps. If you modify your phone's software you can play videos on car screen. I think it is very useful if you are wasting too much time in your car.
