I'm not sure but mine does this aswell, would like to know if there is a reason aswell.
 
Very common problem with the MK4. Dont worry about it, we have all had it.

Ive drilled a couple holes in the back of my cover for circulation and that seems to help it. Just a design flaw.
 
Drile holes, it's the only thing you can do really... if the condensation gets to 40 - 50% up the inside of the lenses Seat will replace them under warranty if you have one.

i selotaped silcagel pads(the sachets you have with new shoes) to the inside of my covers and any slight misting of moisture in the air the packet should absorb it up. :D

I opted not to do this as I knew the bags would need replacing at some point, too much faffing about as all the extra wring for the HID's get in the road.

mine does this to and i got told by Seat just to ignor it and it will go away once you've been driving for a while.

There a lying sack of *******s. I highly doubt it will just go away... is you car under warranty by the way? If it is, i suggest you drive your car into the service desk and tell the ****ers to fix it.

Yeah its under warranty for another year, yeah think i might do that lol. Do u have trouble with the washer jet at the back aswell?

Another common problem, get them to fix that too. Be extremely persistant with them, refuse to leave the showroom etc. Or try multiple dealers, you will eventually find one that isnt out to screw you over.
 
The other thing you can do to guarentee that they will change them is pour some water into the headlight units before you go and then to them it looks like the problem is even worse. The other guarantee is that the next pair that you will get will also have condesation issues, just drill holes in the back covers before the condensation has time to set in and you won't have condenstion to the same levels that you did before. My lights still have a little condensation in them but only when it's really really cold out, and at that I only get a little bit of condensation in the corners next to indicator, so little it's not really that noticable.
My uncle has a MK2 Leon, same issues, it's been back for 3 sets of headlights now, my Dad has a 2004 Cordoba, same issues I drilled holes in his covers - not been back since.
AND unlike "Great Khan" I'm mature enough to understand that this is a common fault with these cars and I don't feel the need to use bad language in EVERY post I make on this forum for every aspect of the cars faults... There is just no need for it, it's not big, it's not clever, and it's never funny....

Mine are misted up too and when I bough my Ibiza I noticed that the majority of SEATs on the forcourt also had the same thing...I asked about it and they said it would burn off when you turn on the headlights..........which it hasn't.

I did temporarily fix it by taking the backs off the headlights, leaving the bonnet up and parking in the garage at work in front of a heater, but the misting returned next time it rained.

Next time I'm thining I may do he same thing when it's dry and then smear some vaseline around the rubbers on the backs of the headlights to try and keep the damp out. Dunno if it'll work but it's worth a shot I s'pose.
 
Well said kidinspace, no need for it!!!!!!!

All Manufacturer's have there niggles and SEAT is no different.
As far as niggles go misting lamps and rear washer connector issues aren't worth getting stressed about.

If you vehicle is under warranty the general rule is if there are visible water droplets, then they can be replaced.

Like it says above, they will mist again but providing it does not mess with the beam pattern its purely cosmetic.

To be honest I don't think the seal round the back covers are the weak spot, I think it's the seal round the lens cover itself. The reason I say this is if you drive in the rain then lift the bonnet afterwards the backs of the lights are not wet, at least mine aren't wet and I only have a 1.2 which has acres more space in the engine bay than the diesels do, so if anyones lights where getting wet at the back it would be mine.
The seal round the light unit itself - the part between the clear plastic and the black back part of the unit - must be where the issue lies... It's just something that can never be fixed complaetely regardless of what you do or have Seat do to remedy the problem, it affects the whole range - I've seen 59 plate cars on the forecaourts with exactly the same issue....

Just to illustrate my point, this is all the condensation I ever get now after drilling my covers at the back. it never gets any higher up or further round the lens than it is here, no matter how wet the weather is or how cold it gets.

I had this problem, i fitted some xenon look bulbs, but the condensation got worse and kept blowing the bulbs. I think that was the problem. I took it to Seat because i thought it were the fuses at first but obv not. Charged me £62 to drill 6 holes and replace my two bulbs and it wasn't covered under warranty because I had put in parts that wern't 'Seat Approved'. Could of done it myself for a lot cheaper, live an learn!!
 
thinks... how easy is it to get to the inside of the lens cover? You can buy stuff to prevent/reduce condensation forming (sold for bike visors etc), has anyone tried using that?

Haven't tried it myself but I do need to get behind lens cover at some point to remove dead flies! and will drill the back covers while i'm at it.
