HELP NEEDED: Insurance company that covers "modified vehicles"?

Ok heres the short version of the story. Called elephant today to declare the suspension, tints and alloys. They said they cant do cover for front windows that are tinted and promptly ended my cover. Oh dear.

So I have tried to find some companies off confused.com that would cover the car. No luck, any of u guys or girls recommend anyone who wouldnt mind mildly tinted (hardly tinted at all) front windows?

try giving the brokers adrian flux a ring, they can search for insurance companies that specialise in modified cars. Be warned though, don't go with equity red star! There claims department is shocking! Believe me, I know!

only problem is with that, tho is imagine mowing a person down -worst case scenario, insurance wont cover you for the death of a pedestrian. You can be the best driver in the world, but a muppet can just run in front. i never declared mods on my last car, but riding my luck really.

Thats mostly the suspension and stuff, but imagine running someone over at night, and the insurance/police blamed the uninsured tints?

I was gonna post this up myself i added air filter as only mod and no one would insure me!!!!

People get non official parts for their cars all the time, and that isnt considered as a mod!

Give Sky Insurance a call mate, (http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/personal/car_modified.html). I've been with them for 2 years, and they've given me very good prices.

They only want to know about visual mods so they can insure you, the premium doesn't go up - it only goes up when you touch real engine stuff.

They charged me no extra for my tints, exhaust and alloys (when I get them) and they replace like for like. I think Scott is the chap to speak to . They specialise in modded cars. And no i don't work for them

yes well to be fair all my mods are very subtle and u wouldnt know they didnt come with the car. Plus it is a 1.2 so they arnt really gona be looking in too detail at the car lol

i didnt decalre my induction kit or my sounds or alloys on my fiesta but it was a risk, my insurance is now cheaper on the ibiza than it was on my 1.25! so i don't mind payin a little extra declaring the mods and not worrying they would invalidate my insurance, they try very hard not to pay out if they can find soemthing to pick you up on.

but if your insurance company don't know about mods the value of them (at a reduced rate ) won't be added to the value of your car when they pay out after it is stolen or worse, they won't pay out at all after an accident because you haven't declared it's modified, thus invalidating your insurance and if you cause a major accident then prosecution beckons!

up to you if you think not telling the insurance company is a better idea!

a green replacement panel filter that replaces the original filter in the original air intake box / setup?

Don't see how a replacement air filter can attract an increased premium. It only serves to flow more air. It's no worse than the PD 160 air intake, but doubt an insurance company would notice the intake anyway. And would they bother to strip the airbox down?

Things like tints, stickers, etc are visual mods and can only attract attention (and thiefs). But then again, maybe the same can be said of (my) yellow FR. But you can see a yellow car coming, so why not make the premium cheaper than say a black car? Now there's a thought!

SUCCESS! Finally got insured today, much deliberation was not required. Adrian Flux are the lucky folks who get my cash, their quote was bordering silly! It was even cheaper than Elephant who Ive been with for 3 years!
