How big is to big for a turbo?

It seams to me that most of the time you can bolt a GT30 turbo to a S3 engine with only some small internal modifications, I'E rods, valves, and valve spring kits.

At what stage do you have to do more internal work when a bigger turbo than a GT30?

Don't plan to do it myself

aside from full engine balance on build.. mine is the parts listed, but has cams and ported head, fluid damper crank pulley + gt35

you have named th main engine parts

associated running gear will need attention with big power

What power is your engine making on the GT35?

power is >600bhp, and torque was >480lbft when it flatlined the dyno (pegged it).. so although i dont have an actual figure, more than i have traction for is a given... all gears spin up in the dry at will on full 35psi boost.. 4th span up slightly when on 15psi actuator boost.
lovely spool.. great turbo

For the op;
If your still 1.8 then i'd go for gt3071r, if your 1.9/2.0 then gt3076r.

head gasket expired..
excessive cylinder pressures from too much timing... and denso plugs shed their ceramics also damaging the valvegear.

no pinking, so that alone is no guarantee that cylinder pressures are becoming excessive.

33 degrees of advance and 35psi boost, no pinking, but too much internal pressure.

Do you think this is what caused the H/G issues? As ive heard storys of people having the same issues as with these studs you have to check the torque ever so often?

As neither of them are stretch bolts

We just had a set of Raceware's mushroom on us...
makes the $165 USD replacement from ARP's look SOO MUCH more appealing.
