How much to plug my car in?

Before I start modding my car, i'm thinking it would be wise to have it plugged into first, this vag-com machine, or equivalent, to see if there are any probs i need to address beforehand. Does anybody know how much this would cost me, and is vag-com what garages would use, or is this a DIY version of something more professional?

If you haven't got a light on then chances are there isn't anything wrong. Apart from doing a few runs and logging boost, maf, etc etc there isn't much to check. PLus a garage wouldn't do logs of boost, maf etc

No, theres no light on, so good info for me there. I wasn't sure if it highlights underlying problems.

Nice one fellas. Great thread there for me to browse through there gazR, thanks. And cheers for the responses bishbash and matt. Yeh, i agree, Portsmouth, not quite round the corner! Matt, if I could PM at some point over the coming month, that would be great. I'm picking a couple of mods up tmoz and so on, but fitting might have to wait for a spell. Great to know your available. You'll have to tell me whats your tipple is, so i can sort you out.

Nice one. These gestures are coming in thick and fast! I know bolton fairly well, so even better. Thanks for that. Anyway, re it being a while before i fit my dv, I couldnt resist! I bought the dv at 3.15 today in irlam. It was on the car by 5'o clock! Ive been up and and down a few roads tonight, rain n all! Quite impressed by it. Im sure its opened up the response quite some. Seems livelier.

Yes, i was in irlam all last week, so i thought it be rude not to take this opportunity to seek Awesome out. And a dv was on the agenda at some point, so why not indulge. The dv seems to have cleared a hesitation prob my car suffered on cold starts. Couldnt help but notice the very morning after it was fitted, it was 8 degree that morning though, considerably warmer than has been. Im hoping for a chilly morn this week to see if it really cleared it!
