Yeah Nick, it should work like that. What the KCE-900E does, is switch the AUX input at the HU on and off for/instead of you.

Street, you can get a Blackbird unit and it'll be better than built in, you can take it with you as well. Built in AND portable. :)

Thanks for the reply. Going to have a go at this if i can get the right RCA jack. Will post what happens if i get it to work properly. Seems simple enough to do, but you never know.

Cheers

Nik

I will eventually make a tutorial, but the main line is this:

a) locate the cables coming from the BT unit (under the seat) to the plug that goes into the stock HU
b) there should be 3 cables, (+, ground and interrupt signal), extract them from the plug
c) take positive and ground and install an RCA plug
d) both this and the interrupt cable go into the KCE-900E, which in turn is connected to the Alpine HU.
e) set the Alpine HU Aux input (one of them anyway) into "Phone" etc

Presto, each time you use the phone, audio is interrupted and the voice is heard through the speakers. Basically all functions as before. All you have to do is adjust the volume (having said that, it is a bit annoying that the "connect" and "disconnect" sounds are much louder than the conversation volume).

Hope this helps.
Nick

PS: I know my installer also used a relay at some point, I'm not sure where that went though, I'll have to ask and get back to you.

have you got a video on you tube?

OK. Following on from this, if i get an RCA plug and connect to the + and - from the bluetooth, and plug in to the AV INPUT of my JVC AVX810 i should get sound when it is selected?
If i also connect the TEL MUTE from the bluetooth to the TEL MUTE on the head unit the unit will mute when it detects an incoming call?
Will the unit stay muted when i select AV INPUT and i will not be able to hear the sound?
Or does the mute signal stop when you answer the call?
For example, listening to radio, call comes in, stereo mutes, you notice the sound mutes so you press AV INPUT then press button on steering wheel to answer call and stereo stops muting and you talk to the caller. When finished, you simply hang up and select radio again and away to go.

Cheers

Nik

what you think of the jvc nick?

Thanks for that.

A) It's portuguese and not greek
B) I wouldn't install the phone there. :D
C) Unfortunately, I own a couple of Symbian Nokias (E60 and E65) and none of them work 100% with the BT module. This means that they connect and I can speak, but I get no phonebook/last calls list on the MFD. I do though with my trusty old 6310i. :)

Pretty Good. Spot on for my needs. Ask me some specifics and i'll tell you more. A bit of hard work to fit in my K1.

just to chuck a curve ball in here... and get back to my orig question... lol

if i bought a seat / vag factory fit double din satnav HU, ie the one they fit in the factory... would it just work... no messing?

my car is leased through work so i dont want to frigg with it too much. and they wanted stupid extra money for it to come with it - thats why it doesn't have it if your wondering.

thinkin i might pick one up on shedbay

yes!

and you would be able to remove and sell it after the lease period.

click HERE to see the quality and some of the nav features of the mfd3, (admittedly the guy is pretty new to the unit and its in german, but youll get the idea). the other functions work in a similar way.

make sure you click the HD icon to get the best quality.

well intrested in sound quality
why hard to fit?

Sound quality is good. Better power and bass than the original head unit. The Seat speakers are ok. Would be better with aftermarket speakers, but they are fine for me. I am a bit of an audiophile so for the average person should be fine.
For the fitting I got the double din fascia from David at Sere Motors. This is exactly what it sounds like, a fascia. When you take the existing stereo out, the cage for the JVC is not as wide as the hole so needs to be secured well. This is the problem. You have to put the fascia on then slide the cage through it so it sits in the right place in the dash. When you bend all the tabs back to secure the cage you can secure it into the fascia, but not into the car. The fascia has tabs on it which fit into the tab holes left by the Seat stereo but they do not click in secure enough to hold the whole thing into the dash. This means that when you accelerate sharply the whole stereo fascia and all slides out towards you. Coupled with the mass of cables behind the stereo which tend to push it out towards you due to the limited space.
I fixed it by fixing short screws through the sides of the cage into the actual car. Only used 2 but there are slots for 4 if you wanted to make sure. These stop the cage from moving backwards or forwards and therefore the fascia just covers everything up and does not need to hold the stereo in.
Hope this makes sense.

:headhurt:
i can confirm this does not happen with the mfd3.

ta dude, its not as nice looking as the pioneer, but i think id prefer the more precticality of the integration. besides, they are roughly the same price as the Avic.

Do theses units have the maps stored on HDD and not DVD like the old style ones.

I guess they have TV input options and play DVD's

i cant find much details on the other than on Shedbay. but thay maybe modded to play DVDs

Well naturally, the console was specifically designed with the MFD2/3 in mind, not any after market unit. :)

Having said that, if you are careful when installing it, and take your time routing the cables from the rear, you'll have no problem.

Removing the aircon controls module makes the whole process a hell lot easier, you have plenty of room to work.

Would not having the MFD fitted casue any issues if I wanted to retro fit the MFD3 ?

Our would I need to retro fit the MFD display in the dash first ? if that makes sense
