Im guessing this is the same setup as the mk4 golfs.
I just fitted my front coilovers today on a mk4 golf (no spreader tool)
I used this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/snap-on-socke...tZUK_Hand_Tools_Equipment?hash=item1c11ba082e
It was either 6 or 7mm, Hammer in, it fits a treat then put the wrench on it and slightly twist (Held fine)
Grab the shock an twist left to right and it should move slighty if you have done it correctly, thens its just a matter of loads of wd40 and patience.
(Make sure the shock is loose from the top, when seeing if you can twist it)
This is going by the bases it is the same as the golf.
