the 2.0 16v is just as fast as mk3 1.8 20vt at standard without the turbo, i wanna see if it can reach 250-280hp. the manifold for it is 250, second hand k03 turbo 120ish, intercooler 100, plus the rest. i cant afford a mk3 cos they start at 3 grand :(

yeah well there is alot to do mate, pistons etc.
when you weigh up costs, it's more economical for a mk3, as it will cost 3-4k on top of the 16v really if you thing realistically!

Plus the ecu and mapping it, as its already been said pistons, custom made inlet manifold.... joy of making a fmic fit etc....

With the Mk3 you pay £400 for a stage one map and it's 180bhp straight away before you playing about with the exhaust, fmic, air filter etc.... easy to get 220bhp for not too much money or hard work!

Be nice to see a 16vT done or a supercharged ABF, if you have the cash and no how then go for it! Know of a Mk1 Golf with a ABF engine turbo'd, 4WD using the Rallye running gear pushing 400+bhp, think I wet myself when I was looking under the bonnet!

like I said the most I've seen is 400+bhp, mine will be running 210-215bhp (hopefully) on throttle bodies, F2 Stu's is 225bhp maybe more with the mod's he haa in mind (again throttle bodies) and there's RobT but that isn't an ABF.

Forced Induction..... no ones done it on here, seen turbo kits for sale on Club GTi mind.

Don't think they will, usually the american kits are for the 8v.... look on Club GTi, I have seen a few turbo kits for sale on there

only the Cupra 2 which didn't come to the UK and a few of the 1.6 Sport did. You sure it was a Ibiza G60 or G40? Only G60 I know of and it isn't in the UK, G40 is local to me but I know he's had a few running problems.

And for the "best colour" which ever colour you like!

oh, and back to the original question - 16v may be quicker but it's more temperamental. You pays your money etc

I don't know about that..... I know a few people with Mk3's and I've had less problems, you gotta love lump mode on the Mk3's lmao

But on that note, last year me and philw (mk3 20vT) and a few other mates went to do 3 sessions at Castle Combe on the saturday drive upto Silverstone saturday evening/night straight from Combe and then do 2 sessions at Silverstone on SUnday and out of 5 of us only me and Phil managed to do the full weekend and drive home!
