Ibiza Mk2 Cupra, front door speakers and tweeters advice please

Done a search and not found what I need.

Looking to put 17cm components in place of factory tweeters in the dash and JBLs in the doors that were in when I got the car.

Looking at custom fits or ones with not too big a magnet due to the window coming down and at the mo I'm thinking Alpine SXS-1757 as I have bass from the rear 20cm speakers, and just need to soften the tinny tweeters there at the mo and raise the sound stage and get some quality sound up front.

Don't really want to spend over £100 either.

What have other people done/fitted etc?

Thoughts/advice/info please!

Cheers

There's no F in Quality..
Morning Ryan, you may need to modify the door pockets to mount aftermarket speakers.

Like I had to do with my Rockford speakers in my Mk2 Ibiza !!! ;)

As for mounting depth, I think you should be ok with pretty much any speaker (there's more room than your think behind there !!!

I'm going to be modifying a set of door pockets for my Cordy (when I get it !!!!) will let you know how I get on !!! ;)

How about in the door pockets ?!? ;)

There's actually quite a bit of room behind the door cards, I've got Diamond M6 crossovers behind mine !!! :s

Sure, but there must be a risk of water getting in there and dont want to get in the way of the window coming down, or do you mean behind the waterproof lining?

Have you found these components to not make the sound so tinny with the factory tweeters out and the sound lifted from, the mids, or was Mk3 20VT systems better than Mk2 anyway?

Ok, so been offered a few different makes/models from different shops and not sure what to go with

Shop 1 - Alpine components SXS-1757
Shop 2 - Kicker components £80
Shop 3 - Boston components £140

The last two will have more bass as american, just not really sure what to go with. Can't find any reviews or info on the web, hmmmm, what to do. Must be more people on here that have upgraded??

Just imported some Alpine SPX177R's direct from the USA at a rather special price to replace my Lanzar set up (£ vs $ :) ). Hope to fit this weekend in my 97 Mk2 Ibiza. Old set up will be for sale cheap. My crossovers are underneath the dash - held on easily with double sided tape! Will let you know how it goes.

All fitted, took longer than I expected, but then I did want to take my time, get it right and do a good job.

In the end the tweeters wouldn't mount under the grills in the dash so had to mount them in the supplied pods in the corners of the dash and the A pillars which was ok and easy to run the wires behind (especially with the glove box out on that side!). They look ok there too.

Sounds is now excellent, just need to play with the head unit a bit more to get the settings right, or even can my Pioneer for an Alpine. Not sure yet. Too much bass still at the moment which is causing vibrations, but with the Pionner menus when the bass is on the Low of the 3 settings it doensn't sound right, and Mid is a bit too much, so not enough fine adjustment really. Could do with a MP3 head unit anyway as it means I can get more music in the car though.

Shame I have 20cm in the rear as there is not many of them on the market so can't really change them to 6x9 unless I get another shelf, which is not the easiest thing to find!

All in all better than the upgraded coax and factory tweeters that were up front anyway.

Will be tested tomorrow with the road noise on the motorway on my way to Thorpe Park

Sounds like a good job. Instead of installing my speakers, I spent Sat repairing GF's car after a minor shunt - the other driver did a runner :(

Rained all day today, speakers still not installed & we lost the cricket. Still it was nice to watch Schumey sliding down the grid! :bleh:

Yes, Proved good on the motorway. Didn't know any of that as been at Thorpe Park in the rain (well most of the day!), still enjoyed though as hardly any queues and some new rides that I hadn't been on as not been for 4 years! Nemisis made us all feel like we had been drinking when we got off!

Here's a huge chunky bump up to the top of the section! I'm in the middle of fitting component speakers right now, and have totally given up for the night! I'm hoping you'll be able to help me, although you wired up your speakers over a year ago.

I'm having trouble finding the best way to wire through from the door into the car. Is there an easy way of getting new wires through? I've been unable to find which wires are for the original speakers inside the car, as there are about 20 coming through the connector.

Does anyone know if the standard speakers have a crossover at all, or just wired in together?

Really grateful if anyone can help!
