Was trying to work out why my car always reported 5mph speed limit heading out of my town.

Think I worked out why..

😄

It could be interesting if you ever have adaptive cruise control switched on when your car ‘sees’ that 5mph sign…….🤔
Yeah I would imagine even from 30 it’s pretty lethal

I wonder if that sign is actually illegal but would be pretty petty to report it

Perfectly ok that sign, it’s warning people of a 5mph limit on their premises ;)

The sign to be useful need to be outside so you see it going in.
Speed limit signs for the public road need to placed and constructed correctly. This one is not.

The fault lies with the car for identifying a non speed limit sign as speed limit sign.
Manufacturers are introducing features before they are working correctly.
Not an issue if the car is just telling you, but if it is going to do something about it then it needs to be fixed.

Aren’t speeds signs all a standard height - why is it picking up so low down - that should be fixed. Just found another place in my town with a similar placed 5mph sign whic caused same - what is it with my town lol

It uses image recognition of the border, colour etc. Have to be regulation ones used internationally. Since its facing the oncoming traffic it's taken by the car to mean "on this road". This road being the one it's facing. I.e.. The main road. It would need to be in the private area at right angles for it to work for humans and image recognition. A driver possibly thinks it doesn't mean me. The car doesn't. I find the Ateca needs to read about two, to take the sign. Dynamic image recognition. There are settings where you can change the way it reads traffic signs least on the Ateca. Variable speed limit motorways, traffic works and new speed limits it comes into its own.

When Wales rolls out it's 20mph speed limit in most 30mph areas from 17th September 2023 you might be glad to get image recognition warning of speeding. Let's hope they change the signs to prevent legal disputes. The digital maps won't have the new speeds in them first off, so image recognition beep warnings etc will be useful as dynamic traffic sign reading will come into it own. I drive without lane assist so only get the beeps not the car trying to do things if you use lane assist. It's how automation works.

https://www.gov.wales/introducing-default-20mph-speed-limits

You can use Obdeleven etc to change lane assist to default to the last setting, on or off in the new implementations of lane assist. It was a fairly recent change, circa 2020 cars with lane assist to default to "on" at ignition. Techi owners reprogramme this if they don't like lane assist meddling with the cars behaviour. How to do it is on the pinned Obdeleven thread.

Mine picked up the 5mph signs each time I pass a works entrance where the site limit is 5mph.
I just switched off the car reacting to the speed limit signs and ignore them now.

One solution 😉. I like the beeps but not the car reacting to them or white lines etc. Too easy to forget what speed you are going at so the reminders come in handy. Mixed village rural driving with speed officers lurking round the corner. Dynamically deployed on sunny days when people speed. 🤔

i agree.. 5mph is minor annoyance and not somewhere i would use cruise control anyway.. i always used to have Waze on to beep at me when speeding and this is an upgrade on that for sure...

My car is worse. Within the city, in a 50 km/h limit zone, it recognizes the road as highway and tries to push to 130km/h speed. Ironically, there is a fixed radar on that spot. Also, when driving in the highway, it sees speed limit for trucks (which is 80 or 60, depending on the hour), it slams the breaks. For my sanity and safety I disabled this "feature". Maybe I should go to court and accuse Seat/Cupra for attempting murder. Imagine driving on the highway with 130-150km/h and car suddenly pushes the breaks. Not a good sight.

I'm a bit old fashioned and think the driver should control the speed of the car and read the speed limits.
Once the car reaches T1000 levels of smartness then sure let it change what I'm doing as a driver, otherwise no.

When the road is long and straight, I feel more comfortable with ACC, but of course I am in control of the speed. Problem is, it is not even recognizing correct signs at lower speeds. I was very excited about the traffic sign feature when buying the car, but it is pretty much useless. I don't know if it software issue or hardware issue.

I started driving many moons ago in a VW beetle which as you all may know didn't have alot of driver aids...
It's a deathtrap compared to pretty much anything you can buy, even used today and I am far from a technophobe, love gadgets etc.
I am firmly of the belief that a computer will in the not too distant future do a much better job of driving than most of us humans.
It seems to me tho, at this time, things like lane assist will make mediocre drivers and dare I say it even good drivers, worse because they won't pay attention.
I have however learned that critiques of people driving are less welcome than the news that you've been sleeping with thier partner. 🙂

The only place I get wrong readings is in Europe off the back of lorries I'm following.

Can I add a specific issue with my V3 that is confusing me and Cupra? On entering a motorway slip road, the sat nav picks up the 70mph limit (there are no signs on the slip road as the preceeding road was already national speed limit). The satnav map sign shows 70 and the HUD and smaller screen also show 70 mph - the intelligent speed limiter however shows 80mph!! The reverse happens at a particular spot where the map and HUD correctly show 70mph, but the speed limiter shows 30mph and the car regen breaking kicks in hard. One motowray service are shows the speed limit as 98mph but show 10mph in the map and HUD! Cupra have been looking into this for 10 months now with no sign of a fix. Whilst trying to fix it they broke the main unit, the brake sensor, had to remove the air conditioning pump to get to the brake unit, and then broke this on replacement. We were without our V3 for 9 months! Anyone else having simlar issues with V3 "intelligent" speed limiter?

Well it will look at the digitised road speed then adapt it to what it reads via TSR. If the digitised road speed is wrong, then you get the wrong reading until it hits a segment of the digitised road with the right speed on it or it reads a traffic speed sign with TSR. I might pass on how the regeneration element works. Clever stuff. It must be something that the company does that prepares the maps after they leave Here Maps for the car. Looking at bends or Here Maps does it for VAG.

Your current map in the system will have a bearing on it the MM.YY or YY.MM which ever way round it is. Nudging that on an update if there is one might correct anything that has been found. Some people get stuck on old maps with Mib 3 and over the air updates. You navigate say to the other side of Europe then it triggers off a map update if there is one which eventually arrives. These monthly updates. Might be worth checking the map updates are coming through fine.

It's good being an early adopter .
