I have been on the list for about 14 months. Dont quote me but i am sure Ibiza's (100%) are first, then i think mike said agu golfs, then the rest. Just hang in a little longer. I am willing to wait until March/april 2005 max for a big turbo kit after that its bye bye Ibiza. Its been a real pain the last 14 months. I thought i would of had it this time last year.

Not wanting to be negative but after this Long wait it seems that the car is gonna be off the road more than on, with problems that are cropping up

no my cars been ok up until now and it was my fault about the diff as i put slicks on to drag with - been told the gearbox is fine its just the diff and i know a few people have already got the diff done so they will be ok, i hope

gone be few more ibizas scaring people soon

LMAO... well Adam is about to find out what real power and breakages is all about is'nt he!

Transmission is THE WEAK LINK for those who have been asleep

23psi boost on mine non its Hybrid and it kicks arse... (gear selection dependant-another issue)
Pulls away from Rob Gravett yesterday in his Focus RS Track Prepped car :D even with big gear selection issues myself.

Only faster car on track yesterday @ Combe (in dry) was Tiff Needell in SR3 Radical... but he was slower down the straights (but boy do they corner on rails or what!)-RESPECT.. :)

With 342bhp SpS, have you ever been left trailing by another car out there on the roads. I want 330bhp+ just for my Scooby slaying really. when there eyes fill and tears roll thats my fave bit.

Hi Mike,

AFAIK the only problems with IHI'd Ibizas have been with either Bills car, which has far more boost than the normal stage 3, or with Ibizas running with standard diffs.... Jabba have clearly stated that the Ibiza gearboxs standard diff will not cope with the Stage 3 kit (Its on their website even now).

Not having a go at anyone here, but if you get the stage 3 upgrade on your car without fully preparing the car first (ie. upgrading the clutch and diff) then you can't blame Jabba when said parts fail (Not that anyone has blamed Jabba). This is not a reflection on the kits reliability.

AFAIK, no IHI'd car with uprated clutch and diff and running standard stage 3 bost has had any issues at all (Saying that, I don't think such a car is out there ATM!).

Ben

Jabba said stnd gearbox is good for 270lbs ft. And thats what they map it to dont they. I am sure a new clutch and uprated gearbox is req. Look how long jabbas demo car lasted on a stnd gearbox, quite a while.

One of the limiting factors of the stage3 kit must be the IhI vf34 turbo. It will be flat out at 330-340bhp. It wont flow anymore air i am sure. The next jump would be summit like a IhI vf22 which would prob go to 400-420bhp ish (i may be wrong) but the lag may be quite severe on stnd compression with a boost spike of 18.5psi and 18psi sustained. The only good thing is jabba have had no turbo failures that we know of. So even though the turbo's at its max it seems to be coping. Most scoobs running ihi vf34's max out @ 320-340bhp roller dependent.

nope never been left by anything really - had a 911 turbo pull away a little but thats cos i wasnt ready for him as he didnt want to play at first, and a SL55 AMG that was quick but i had to pull off the next junction so never got to se what it could do but i did undertake him. want to try against a skyline just to say ive beaten one

Not Stating any different!!!

Just saying that weaknesses in the car are showing, when mileage and age is added on...

Some one got the wrong end of the stick!

Right IHI failiures i've heard about, and I have a bit of an interest in it as i've got a vf34 on my daily driver.
ex jabba golf. droped a valve at the nurburgring recently.
Bills car toasted a turbo recently. Bill taking the piss out of the turbo
Amd fitted a kit to a golf. Turbo popped yesterday. Owners taking the piss out of the turbo.
Amd fitted a kit to another golf. Engine fell out a couple of weeks ago due to engine mount failure. Whole host of other problems, not ihi related.
Jabba golf, customers car, high milage>100k, no probs, but had to replace a worn out gearbox.
Another golf with kit fitted by 3rd party. No info at the moment.
SPS's car. Gearbox failiure i think.
My car. Only had the kit on for 500miles. Fitted and Mapped by third party. No probs as yet and not expecting any. Only running 1.15 bar and made 290hp 290lbft on JBS's rollers. Standard cars made bang on standar figures.

Jabba only run it at 1.25 (18.5 psi) bar dropping down to 1.22(18 psi) bar (I think). So if your running 1.15bar 16.9 psi i cant see how its going to make another 40-50bhp off another 1.6psi at spike. It would suggest jabba's 330-350bhp is not really achievable unless you use there rolling road. Maybe the stage3 kit is really on making 320bhp or there abouts on more realistic rollers. What do people reckon. Am i barking up the wrong tree (power wise)?.

Hi Gary,

Yes the standard gearbox is good for 270lbs ft as you say, but the stage 3 kit is 290lbs ft, and so they don't advise using the standard gearbox with the stage 3 kit.... they advise fitting the Quaife ATB diff which should then make the gearbox good for 320lbs ft.

So, anyone using the standard gearbox with the stage 3 kit can expect it to fail.

Mike told me that the stage 3 kit runs relatively low boost but the turbo is capable of running up to 2 bar! So the turbo isn't the limiting factor. Obviously the standard engine and gearbox wouldn;t be able to cope with that power (Or heat). There are loads of other things that restrict the power output, such as the exhaust port sizes etc.

Hi Mike,

I think we are misunderstanding each other.

My point is that the problems being seen are nothing to do with the age or milage of the car, the problems are due to people fitting the kits to cars without uprating the required parts first.... for example fitting the 290lbs ft stage 3 upgrade to a car with a standard gearbox which is only safe up to 270lbs ft.

AFAIK there aren't ANY Ibizas out there running the standard stage 3 upgrade with the advised associated upgrades (eg. Quaife).

Cheers
Ben
