Ben
My Golf had a horrible vague change yes.. and the synchros did'nt like rev's >6K (not much good when you can go to 8K) - Had a long conversation with Al before plumping for dog box Nov last year. Combination of high revs and high power made the only decision for me... Reality however is something else!
Yea I'm sure it could have been a better box than I had on actual gear change, but doubt whether synchro's could be made to reliably work @ the higher rpms no matter what. Lapping in only lasts a short while.
Running my dog box built now and its turned into a 4spd sequential... Go figure. Had 5th gear selection problem since day #1, and repeated oil leak all reported as they occured (re-occured).

Now have a 4spd sequential g'box
Yep! Very impressed. NOT!
Actual use on track has been very minimal due to other problems.
Did Scotland Kames sprint, Curborough sprint, Donington, Castle Combe (2 sessions & retired with sick motor), & Castle Combe on Friday... *5th gear selection problem since Donington. not exactly long lived Motorsport spec box is it???? 02J with a diff worked much longer without problem.
