1.54bar is max the standard boost sensor will see, mike may have fitted one of a diesel so it can run higher.
At the end of the day you can see that whatever boost, the k04 cannot shift more than 270bhp worth of air at the top-end.I remember simon elman ran his k04 wastegate shut and it peak at 2 bar!It just generating loads of heat at this level.

doesn't the map sensor only work to 1.55bar?

Yep works to 2.55bar absolute pressure, either mikes put the 150 tdi map sensor which is 3bar absolute, or 1.65 bar is spike overboost, ECU needs Maf and map readings @ all conditions, but high load/boost is critical or things will soon melt/fail :(

so james' boost guage is wrong
Or
the Map sensor was changed (and I assume all the calibrations)
Or
the map exceeds any measurable boost.

Correct mate, could be any of the above, but come to think of it, sure mike told james his boost gauge was out, maybe earlier in this thread

"all" required tables requiring rescaling to 3bar MAP sensor are adjusted?

Is this possible?

yea mike told me that my autometre boost gauge was actually about 1/1.5 psi underreading!

as for the 1.65 bar... im 95% sure that is wat mike said i was peaking at (or was it running at? )

looking at my gauge... it holds at about 21/22psi and peaks at 25/26 psi i think!

i really havnt been able to drive my car that much since getting it remapped :(, so il have to check wen i get a chance!

james :)

If your gauge is under reading and you are spiking to 27psi that is 1.85 bar :headhurt:

maybe im seeing it peak at 25psi?! so really 26psi!

il look next time!

A few of the TT boys run at that kind of boost levels - with FMIC though.

With a decent FMIC, and if the standard side mounts drop 0.3 bar, the turbo will be running at the same boost at 1.85 on an FMIC'd car as it would at 1.55 bar on a SMIC'd car. Or would it/am I wrong?

Back from the dead
Very occasionally I see a peak of 24 or 25psi under extreme load (going up hill for instance), but generally it sits around 21-22 once it levels out. Only done 6k miles since this has been the norm though so nothing bad to report as yet. Only odd thing I've seen is my VAC psi has dropped from 20 at tick over to 16, but still hunting to see if its a pipe leak on the boost gauge.

As has been said before you can see up to 2 bar @ 3000rpm but at 6500rpm it will struggle to 1.1/1.2 bar ,hence why a k04 cannot produce more than 270bhp.This is also the reason why a car running 1.2 held will make more power than a car peaking at 1.8bar then dropping to 1.2 bar because of the amount of heat it produces. You pay your money you make your choice.
