I'm not trying to "knock" your suggestion, but that reason for knocking has already been done to death on all these VAG forums covering Fabia+Polo 9N+Ibiza 6L - so I'd expect that there can be no reason why people have not used "search" considered and discounted that one.

Maybe too late for you, but most people tend to replace the standard voided bushes with the solid Cupra bushes as they control the wheeel movement better and last a lot longer (if not for the life of tehe car).

Been watching this thread pretty closely to see if anybody comes up with any new suggestions because this is a problem I have had with my car for nearly 3 years now, my car has been back to the same dealer almost 30 times (and that isn't an exaggeration as outrageous as it seems) mainly to sort out the knocking noise but also for a few other issues I have had with my car since I bought it from new. I have even had contact with the manager of the dealers to sit down and fully explain to him the problems I am having and how long it has been going on.

Since the problem occured I have had many things checked/changed which have all failed to resolve the issue that a fair few of you have described here. I have had new steering racks, suspension arms, I have had the suspension checked to make sure it is fully torqued up all round and not moving, I have had a new ARB put on the car, all bushes have been checked on the roll bar, wishbones, droplinks and suspension with no fault found anywhere, I seem to remember asking for the engine mounts to be checked too which came back as no fault found. Initially it was suspected that the intercooler was to blame and was moving and knocking against something so that had been replaced too, again with no joy.

There is a fairly long discussion on this issue in this thread (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=114365), but there still doesn't seem to be a one answer that fixes all as yet though. As far as I can tell I have had every part replaced that has previously been found to fix the issue for someone else but as yet no luck. I have been out and had several service techs sit with me while I demonstrate the problem and they have agreed that it is a problem but still have no idea on what to tackle next to fix it.

I hate suspension knocks, I've never met a mechanic that can identify, locate and fix them.

Yes mine is, whatever it is it makes the car move about at speed over white lines and adverse contours in the roads surface as well.

Knocking Noise Also

Hi sorry to jump in here but I think I may have the same problem you all seem to be having and am just after some general advice.

A month ago I drove over a pothole and snapped a spring clean in half (local council are reviewing my claim for this at the mo) anywho, once the spring was replaced the car seemed fine....for 2 weeks at least!

I am now getting a hollow knocking noise, difficult to describe, it definately sounds like a knock rather than scraping and only when driving at lowish speeds and over uneven ground - i've also noticed that it only seems to knock when the drivers wheel isn't under compression so when going over potholes/dips in the road and not when going over speed bumps and the like.

The car still runs fine and drives straight.

I was just wondering what it could be?

I've taken it to a garage and they basically implied that there is nothing wrong with the car (yes I may be female but I do know when my car is making a noise that it wasn't making before!!!)

It's getting to the stage where I really don't want to drive the car as it literally sounds like somethings ready to drop off it.

As I said I'm female and the reason I bought the car int he first place is cause I was under the impression that the seat was reliable and well built - it may appear that I was wrong.

I'm not particularly mechanically minded and am due to take the car in again next week and wondered if there is anything I should ask them to specifically check for?

Thanks in advance

This problem is really annoying me now, i hate little things like this cause its harder to detect what the problem is, especially when its intermittent.

I havent got any play in and bushes, for example droplink, arb, track rod, wishbone or in the strut that would suggest top mount bearings (side to side play) so im officially stumped?

Any suggestions that havent already been said??

Hi Guys, And Girls this knocking noise seems to be a common factor among so many ibiza's!!!!mine went in a while ago and they said it was the front roll bar, which btw **has a manufacturers defect meaning it rubs on the steering arm at low speeds......hence a knocking sound. (so get it changed under warrenty now if u can ppl as seat arnt recalling cars for it but will change it if approached.**
however....2 weeks later the noise came back and it went in again and something had come loose *so they said* and since then the noise has gotten worse..........so in the end i took it back to the seat dearler i bought it from *Marshalls in Cambridge* and they spent a whole 2 hours road testing it and throwing it about and couldnt get it to make the noise.......untill he went to park it and it grinded like mad. he straight away told me that it was the bearings in the top mounts of the suspension and that it is a common fault across the VW SEAT range and that changing them would stop the noise........booked in for the 8th August so watch this space..... hope this info helps as i know this noise is not just annoying but embarressing when trying to park and the car sounds like its guna fall to bits. =)
Andy

* just a big thank you to Marshalls Seat Cambridge, very helpful =)

Hi (Proff)
I would go to seat and mention about the roll bar. even if it doesnt cure the knocking, it will save wear and tear on the steering arm, which in time will mean yourself replacing it otherwise.

im as stumpped as you are, im hoping the top mounts will fix my noise but as i said watch this space lol....what really got me is that no seat garage ive been to knows about thius problem!!! i think this is denying knowlegde as there is so many of us having trouble!

I dont want to shower on your parade here, but I had my top bearing in the front right suspention replaced, and it's still doing that noise. I have given up on finding out what, I'm just waiting for the damn thing to grind to a halt so I can find out what is making the noise, and fix it!

My car went in this morning to try and get this sorted again, I have asked them to look at the roll bar rubbing against the steering arms. I got a call back saying that they have ordered in some kind of rubber type thing that fits between the two parts to stop it making the noise, I will post my findings up when it gets fitted, been told it won't be till wednesday.

Hi everyone,

the car is back from having its top mount bearings changed and touch wood at the moment its quiet....however how long will this last.....im not convinced this will solve the problem because it seems to stay quiet for a few weeks after a service then play up again lol.

however what confused me is that they only changed the offside bearings not the whole lot so il prob be back in a few weeks for the other side to be done......crazy mechanics!! considering this is a common fault with these ibizas, everytime i speak to a dealer about it they have never heard of a problem like it......crazy>>>????

other then that though i love the car to pieces!!!
CANT WAIT for the bocanegra.....mmmm

Has it stopped the front end moving about over bumps and under braking and acceleration?
