California Bound
Hello all. I have been using the search function for most of the morning and I cannot seem to find the definitive answer that I am looking for.

I have been "umming and ahhring" about a remap for ages now but I have decided that January is going to be the time to have it done. However, I am most confused about which one I should get.

Researching on here over the months and picking your brains for little bits of info has taught me that I will need a Stage 1 generic map on an otherwise standard car, this is fine as I don't plan to add the mods required for a Stage 2. Either slightly before or after the remap, I will be fitting a Forge 007p to help cope with the extra boost & an open cone air filter. What I am confused about is which brand I should get, all companies that I have heard of (REVO, Custom Code, Jabba, P-Torque, APR, AMD) quote similar performance figures with between 255 - 270bhp and 270 - 290ft/lb torque but the way the car runs seems to differ.

I am after other LCR owners opinions on their own maps if you would be so kind :)

I own an LCR 210 and there is a REVO dealer right around the corner from me and the REVO guys on this forum have been really helpful with great pre-custom service. The garage would be very convenient but if the map is not right for me then I don't mind travelling to another brand. It's alot of money to part with so I want to make the right decision.

I am a daily driver but I would like more power under my foot. I have a pretty docile commute but when I need to open her up, I want her to shift and perhaps surprise a few Subaru's & the like from time to time on the weekend :)

I have read from other users that REVO is aggressive although I am not sure in what respect? Does this mean I'll see harsh acceleration at lower revs but with little boost at higher revs? Custom Code has been described as being smooth so I am guessing that this will mean power is consistant from idle to redline?

The problem I find with the standard 210 is that boost drops off higher in the revs which IMO lets the car down, I don't want this with the map, i'd like it to shift nicely from idle to the red if possible.

Anyway, any info you can supply me would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to reading your remap reviews.

Thanks,

J

our software isn't aggressive; it can be setup to be agressive but if you want it more progressive it can be set up as such. our software will hold boost up the top-end untill the turbo runs out... we give you the choice to take as much from the car as it can safley deliver!

you've got a 30 day moneyback guarentee....if you don't like it, get your money back!(but you will like it ;) )

i have custom code and its mapped to 265 ish with equivalent torque...1st and 2nd gears are a bit more powerfull than the standard map but when you are in 3rd and above it really pulls well...all the way up to the redline. 4th gear pulls like a train even from low revs i.e 2000 rpm...even when you are sitting in 6th on the motorway at 85 the engine is sitting at 3400 rpm which is slightly higher than standard but you have boost on tap....just tap your right foot and you will see 95 and above very quick..

revo is cool too, i was looking at that myself, but i went with custom code in the end...just incase you havent researched custom code...your peak boost on CCph1 should be 1.5 bar and hold 1.1- 1.3 bar even in 6th you will be 1.2 bar sitting at 100..

I have custom code phase 1, a fine modification! It makes the car into a completely different animal! You are right in saying its smooth but believe me it can be aggressive if you want it to be! I only went with this because my trusted mechanics deal with them.

Its totally down to personal choice which company you go for... I reckon they're all pretty much of a muchness (especially at phase 1). I have heard both good and bad about most but I think you always will the more you research. If you have a dealer round the corner I'd say give them a go (especially with a money back guarantee) coz if you do have any problems you haven't gotta limp far!

Hope this helps.:D

yeh if you boot it from standstill the 2nd gear is awesome will throw you down the road and then some, my mate has a rover 220 coupe and he noted the second gear, he said it was awsome. however i told him 3rd and 4th are the best gears. from his face i think i was correct lol

I have had both REVO and P-torque maps, Revo on a cupra and P-torque map on a LCR. My personal preference would be P-torque, as the map is like standard, but with loads more power when you want it. My wife drives the car and it is a real ***** cat, still easy to drive and docile until you give it some right foot, then it lets you know about the extra power available, had the map on my car now for over 2 years. Another reason to recommend the p-torque map is it is very good value for money compared to other tuners.

Using a high octane petrol also make a noticeable difference, tesco 99 and the like.

How did you find the REVO? Was it a little hard for daily driving?

Thanks for the replies so far. So general opinion is that Stage 1 remaps are much the same whoever you use? I guess the noticeable differences come when you fine tune things with a Stage 2?

Can't comment on a remap on an LCR, but I got my LC done @ F1BTN in Brighton.

The lads down there are very knowledgeable, and Si is a die-hard VW fan.

Customer service was fantastic!!

Plus if you get it done there you'll have the fun of driving back up the road to Gatiwck ;)

mate whats your stage 2 like?

Fantastic...

I hardly have to change out of 6th on the motorway, and the power is delivered so smooth!

Have to be a little careful at the lights, but once it's moving...OMG.

Haven't had it on the rollers yet so don't know what I'm putting out, but I don't really care...has TOTALLY transformed the car.

Suffice to say I've made a couple of std LCR owners double take when I'm still sat of their tail if they open up...

Best single mod I ever did!!

PS - Jason S, sorry to detract from your original Q's - Oh, and I'd recommend doing the air-filter & DV before the remap!!!

I had My LCR remaped by CC had a good service and with the 30% off they are doing gives you some money for your dv.

Like everyone is sayin when you get it done it's a different car when you put your foot down but just as good when your driving slow.
But with whichever map for go for your going to get the same result.

It was fine for daily driving, but I did find it a bit aggressive after a while, the turbo came in very hard, difficult to regulate the throttle and limit wheel spin, it also ran out of breath at the top end. But that was an older map, so perhaps they have refined it now. The MK 1 cupras had a smaller turbo so they did not have the performance in the upper rev range of the LCR.

If you want to come up to the London Meet in Jan I'll take you out in mine which has an AmD map.
It's easier to feel the power than discribe it.

if theres any chance of getting a look at rolling road graphs for the mentioned companies it would give you a good idea of the power bands and an idea of how the map will drive, rather than max figures.
personally i`d rate jabbasport highly, but to be fair havnt tried anyone else. i would however get the map done by a vag specialist. ideally one with a rolling road. if there are any issues an experienced garage should spot it quickly saving any headaches.:)
