The big differences with the R1R and the R888's is the the R1R's are 88y and the R888's are 92y. As you said the side walls are MASSIVELY stiffer too.
I've driven R888's on snow and ice too. That was interesting, ha ha.
Once you get heat into them the traction in the wet is amazing too.

yes love the R888 but they can be hard to get fresh I also love them in the wet although if there is any water starting to accumulate on the surface I never take the car out because it's no fun sliding all over the place
but cines it doesn't rain much over hear it's a good all season tire

updates well I have been busy getting ready for school and haven't received all the parts yet so I have not managed to stay up to schedule and finish building the motor by the end of the summer

anyhow I haven't worked on the car at all so since I know everyone loves pictures here are a few pictures of some parts I have gathered and haven't put up on the page yet

Mahle motorsport 83mm,92.8mm stroker pistons

Pauter rods

IMG_0142.jpg

ARP custom age 625 rod bolts (because the ARP 2000 rod bolts Pauter provides with the rods can't take the RPM I want to push )

IMG_0137.jpg

ARP main engine bolt and FW bolts

IMG_0136.jpg

I drilled the timing gear for a dowel pin (need to take the crank in to my shop to get it drilled as well)

IMG_0140.jpg

Raceware 10mm ore 11mm head studs. I might be replacing the standard 10mm head stud size for a set of 11mm studs which would mean getting the block taped

sciroccoproject19111.jpg

finally a pair of Tial 38mm MVS WG's why two? because maybe one day my phantom turbo will show up. we are talking about a BW 8374 EFR turbocharger backordered already 9 months [:@]

yes I have been neglecting my build thread but I have not had much time with all that is going on

updates

finished the bottom end CNC billet engine girdle and main caps, the engine girdle is 13mm think and made from a plate of 4340 steel that has been CNC'd on both sides for a smooth and flat surface within 0.005 mm
also got the plate hardened to within the spec of the block in order to stiffen the bottom end while not introducing vibrations into it at the same time.
all I need to finish to engine block now are the bearings and main bolts which are on order by custom spec

also working on finishing a twin cam setup

I almost finished building the intake system I got a 7" velocity stack and a huge 7" by 7" air filter to match, build a box around it for fresh and cool air from the fender just need to finish the 4" pipe from the velocity stack to the Turbo inlet once the turbo is in place

I also finally attended to install my SQS sequential shifter which is awesome and makes shifting much smoother and easer, love the fact I can't miss shift any more
i also got a new shorter shift leaver for it and got it moded to fit the O2M

also managed to my hand on a pair of 2011 Seat Cupra recliner seats I had to custom make the mounts myself because I didn't like anything I found in the market and there actually aren't any mounts which are specific for the swap the most common problem is that the seats need a real low mounting position no available with other mounts, so I decided to make a quality mount for an mk5 seat swap into mk4, got the mounts laser cut welded and powder coated, also did some analysis to make sure they will be safe and withstand a collision, watch out for these mounts to be released for sale by a vender I work with

YAAAAY!

This build is the best thing on this whole site. I'm glad you're keeping it updated and can't wait to see where it goes.

Would be good to see some more general pics of the car as it stands now. ;)

Thanks for the update

What an incredible Leon! Brilliant work Tal, well done. :)

Would love to see more and more updates on this thread. Epic and when done will be one of the best Leon's if not the best one on the site.

Really loving the sequential shift you've got in place and love the fact you've adapted it for the 02M box. I am a big fan of sequential changes, would love to do that in my car.... Proper touring car style :)

Keep up the good work and the updates!

I also received the last parts for assembling the motor
Vandervell Mahle motorsport racing bearings these are true tri metal bearings not the alleged ACL stuff
also got the crank gear and two sets of ARP extra long studs for the Engine girdle only thing left is to get two new pairs of oil pomp chains and add two links from one to the other to make it longer and that's it , except for a gasket set and all the oil return rings, I will start blueprinting the motor as soon as I have some spar time and hopefully in 3 months time in spring brake I will put the motor together

I am also expecting some other parts to arrive next week wide band , inconel turbo studs oil lines and some other bits and pieces
