Your quotes sound a little high, although you might be getting the rear bumper done as well. Make sure you go to Body shops that do cash work. A lot only do insurance work as they can charge double!
I just had my 02's rear end done as a "Woman" failed to notice that I was stopped at a red light and smacked in the back of me. New tailgate and bumber plus badges trims and paint and I had one quote at just over a £1,000 and one at £2,000, despite being told that it is all standardised these days! I went for the more expensive one on the basis they were to absorb the cost of another persons incompitant supermarket parking to my passenger door.
Now get this, the first time I went to pick the car up having been told it was ready, some foxes came in in the night and scratched the new bumper! Isn't that the best motor trade bullsh*t story! The fox also made the sprayer forget to do half the job as well. This was all made more annoying buy the fact that the hire car I had was a Citroen C4, which I would like to vote as the worst new car I have ever had the displeasure of driving.
Just got the car back and went to the bike bay last week to ride my Suzuki SV650 home and some g1t had knocked that over. £100 on parts alone not to mention the now ruined paintwork!!

In the end i think the guy just got a bollocking - if it was my own car i'd have petitioned for castration
