Afternoon,

In as brief of an explanation as I can be, I have the following issues I was hoping someone could some advice to;

Leon 20VT

1. First got the car, check over diagnostic showed code 16486/P0102/000258 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF/G70): Signal too Low

2. Never got round to fixing it for some time

3. Went abroad leaving car locked in garage for 6 months

4. Battery life non existent as you would imagine

5. Fired car up and EPC light was on

6. Battery wouldn't hold charge so called AA Roadside to bump start. Asked him to plug it into his computer out of curiosity, and it came up with a accelerator pedal issue (didn't give me the code), and reset it. EPC light went off.

7. Fully charge battery (4 hour charge) and the next day was fine (still hesitant in 2nd/3rd - put it down to the MAF still)

8. 48 hours later, the Engine Warning light has come on. Read into a lot of threads and most said it was the MAF, being that I had the original diagnostic, I bought one (Bosch from ECP) and replaced it today.

9. Engine warning light still on, and hesitates every now and again but much better than with the old MAF

10. Secondary Air Pump needs re-sealing because it fires up in the mornings like a London Taxi (found a cool guide to fix)

I added the last bit in the event it was linked to any possibilities.

I'm hoping that it could just need an ECU reset where it was flat lined for so long.

Any one got any thoughts?

I haven't checked the wiring in detail - read up on some red grease you can get to help with the plug.

Part was bought out of a box from ECP with the end caps still on and looked pretty much brand new. Went for the £120 part exchange with £30 off

Okay not had a chance to plug the ECU in yet, just ordered a cable off ebay and hope to have it on Tuesday .. £5.60 with disc ?!

I've had a closer look at the MAF, and spotted some oddities that I'm unsure of.

I'm attempting to add pictures -

This shows a gap .. is this common, or have I been given the wrong model?

Another image -

I've spotted that my plug only has four pin clips, the one on the right is missing - or shouldn't be there, however the MAF socket has five pins .. is this correct?

Still waiting for my cable to arrive - should've been here Tuesday grrr

Started the car up today, and low and behold - the Engine Management light has gone out!!

I'm hoping it was just the 'getting used to' on the new MAF

Obviously still going to run a diag as soon as possible

Secondary Air Pump needs sealing - could this be the fault, or have I got a bigger problem on my hands?

Help!!!!!!

That code could be a hard one.

I had it as well, you need to check all (!!!) pipes and connections from the Boost circuit, so from turbo exit to throttle body. And check the vacuum connections under the intake manifold!

Thanks for the advice!

I had a mooch around this morning, and I remember the bloke I bought the car off saying that it had been recently ditched because I pointed out that the intercooler mount under the hood wasn't connected flush - so I stuck my camera under the bumper and found this;

One oily covered Intercooler.

I think I'm gonna have to get the bumper off and have a good look.

Fingers crossed it's only a pipe issue :blink:
