how much do you need to slep the belt on? distance? have you loosened off the power steering pump long bolt that mounts to the big bracket? it must be 4 inches long or so? perhaps if you get that out, you may be able to move the whole unit up enough to slip the belt on

have you actually undone all the bolts mat, might sound dumb, but there is quite a few bolts to loosen before it can budge

I don't freakin believe this. This is the 2nd belt I have got. Even that one is not long enough, even after moving the pulley so it's touching the other pulley. Why the hell are there so many different length belts for the same damn thing.

11,5 x 745 is not long enough. So what is the next one up from that.

I went to the SEAT dealership in Croydon, gave them my VIN number and they couldn't find my car on their system, so they were a waste of space and time.

I been going to Euro Car Parts to get them. tried 2 so far and both don't fit over the 3 pulleys even when the pulley is pushed right up to the other one.

I'll have to take it back to ECP and see if they have another longerish one. It's only short by about 1cm every time.

Mat, kinghams are a complete waste of time and energy. I rang them a couple of years back and was told i had to take the car down, i explained that i couldn't as it was chucking out all its coolant and all i got told was well you can come down n look at a similar car as they had no mk2's there unsurprisingly. a quick call to the uber helpful parts girl at spur wimbledon and she had it sorted in less than 30mins :) i'd give them a try!

She's back !!! V-Belt finally replaced. Battery replaced and after a few deathly splurges coughed back in to life. Spitting out a lung full of noxious gases in the process. Just took her for a wee little drive down my road and back to check it's not overheating. No problem signs so far.

Now just on to all the thousands of little niggly things. Drivers door handle won't open the door. Rear end now has the SEAT reflector panel but needs some attention..and glueing I think. Needs a serious clean up. Might get the engine bay cleaned. I found there's a huge nest of something left a load of empty husks from nuts or something.

So happy she is alive again though.

Yes, Seat finally found the correct belt. For anyone who wants to know it's 11.5 x 755 v-belt. That should fit right.

I've just taxed her over the phone. Does anyone know if you can then drive her about whilst you wait for the tax disc to arrive ????

Cheers, I am so glad I didn't give up. Admittedly what I did today was such a simple job. However not having the right parts or the right tools and never having any time to do this when the weather is good just made that 3 months all the more long.
