we are gonna try this shortly :) will post back with the results no doubt. more room in the bumper behind the crash bar on a leon so should not be a problem

i am getting it done asap, have been looking at universal one from ebay for £120 in Newark, blagged my dad cos he's quite handy at this stuff, he also has a 406 diesel intercooler sat doing nothing so i'm gonna check that out first, let me know how it goes though cos i'm interested in doing it

fitted my new FMIC today and im impressed!
thanks for this nice guide! :)
what about a guide for an airbox-mod? [B)]

good lad, nice tidy job there!

Wouldnt min d your garage! a pit is very handy! :)

Notice a nice gain with it on?

but the mesh presses a bit on the IC.... maybe in a few days some mesh-work :D
today @ 6pm
holds boost nice till 5gear 5800 rpm and ~230 kmh @ 0.95 bar
then i have to stop because of the traffic.
but it still thrust forwards.

and i need a bracket for my tube
the IC now ends 1:1 with the bumper

Is the big radiator you can see with the bumper off the main engine radiator or the AC radiator, or are they both mounted at the front one over the other?

If it's the main engine radiator, then by fitting the Laguna IC it looks like you're reducing the airflow to the main radiator by at least a half, if not more.

With the massive frontal area of the Laguna IC I'm not surprised the inlet air temperatures are a fair bit lower than with the Forge IC, but stealing all that air from the radiator can't be a good thing.

How are the engine temps on the cars running Laguna ICs? Can you get a decent reading of the water temp through VAG-COM? The temperature dial in the car isn't much use, as VAG have designed these to read 90deg (middle of dial) over a range of something like 80 to 100 deg, to stop people stressing that their cars overheating when its just a bit warmer than normal.

I could see how fitting one of these ICs might end up leading to higher EGTs, but I suupose it depends whether the inlet air temp or the engine temp affects this more?!

I prefer the idea of fitting an IC off another car, just to save money, but I have to say that one just looks too big.

Cheers
Andy

coolant temps dont change fella. you fan kicks in a 91oC anwyays.

The AC Rad sits over your radiator to begin with (not the least restrictive thing ive ever seen!), and my fan doesnt kick in any more than it used to.

The forge one sits slap bang infront of the radiator also and is thicker thus letting less air through, how do you think the GTI-R's cope with a large FMIC on their bumper and mesh on top of that?

I can see what your saying but your reading too much into it mate

Hi there,
Nice job on the intercooler, looks the nuts.

Just wondering if that was a new intercooler or second hand, also wich laguna it is off, having two major types (Mk1 and MK2) both with face lifts.

Ah ok, if the AC rad is already completely blocking the engine rad, then the IC's gonna make no difference! (except the AC might be a bit less effective, but that's hardly a problem)

The fact they are much thinner is nice, much prefer the look of the car with the mesh retained at the front, so the idea is warming on me.

Just out of interest, has anyone tried using charge coolers on the Ibizas, I know there were a few guys using them on Polo G40s?

if your interested in seeing the laguna fmic on a leon keep an eye in that section as i have one just looking at plumbing and fixing then it'll be up and running!!

I know I'm probably a pain in the ass but the images still aren't working on the guide.

I have the intercooler sat under my stairs and I've ordered the hoses from SFS and the alloy tube from ebay.

The thing I'm not clear about is the 2 hose joiners/couplers and the amount of new jubilee clips I need for the job. Which parts are the couplers for as I can find 63mm ID couplers as specificed but these surely wont fit over a 63mm bore hose with a 4.5mm thick wall. I'd appreciate any help in ordering the right parts as I'd rather not be faffing around with a dismantled car which I need to get parts for.
As said, any guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I will also have a TIP and FPR to fit too

They dont fit OVER the hoses, theyre internal fitment. 63mm couple will fit a 63mm hose.

And why are you fitting a new FPR, do you have a new map to accomodate it?

 don't I feel like an idiot. After looking at the pictures in the gallery (thanks), I could understand they are the metal ones which fit inside. I can also count up the number of jubilees required too but I don't understand what the extra bit of red tubing is after the blue 135 deg bend
Yes, immediately after the FMIC, FPR and TIP are fitted it's having a custom remap. I'll probably fit the FPR the morning of the remap.

the bit of red hose after the 135 degree bend will already be on your car only it is black
