nope, its oil cooled only and I knew this from the start:) so no suprise for me there, but as long as its given plenty of time to cool etc as I normally do with a turbo then it will be fine. Others i.e. Robdon runs this unit with no issues what so ever

yeah marks are a bit rough, but its function which is important, not looks...as who is going to see it tucked any way

porosity is the more concerning aspect. wondering whats lurking just beneath the surface skin elsewhere. some heat cycles will show you no doubt.

Yeah the GT2X's have always been oil cooled, non BB types apparently, not really a massive problem tho is it bill as some of the T3 type turbos run oil cooled.

and how old a design are T3's :hide:

turbo timer and oil temp gauge advised perhaps. ;)

did not think turbo timers worked on the VAG cars, or had issues always setting them up etc due to ECU etc?

i think it effects the immobliser. but you could always get aftermarket security


then again as long as you let it cool down before switch off:shrug:

Can you post up pics of the CR work, what they've done and how much it cost please as I want this done to mine, you can PM me if you like!

Oil-cooling poses no problem, mine is 2 years good with zero turbo-related issues, running at 1.4 BAR of boost for the past year, since fitting an oil temp gauge I have noticed no adverse effects on the oil temp.

price was £150 + VAT with the following work:

360 degree thrust bearings fitted
larger and re-machined compressor
reprofiled housing (I think thats what he said)

should be getting delivered some time next week

also ordered today:

Ultimax front grooved - £165.01
Ferodo DS2500 for 312mm - £114
Motul RBF600 high temp brake fluid (dot4) - £8.99
Stage 3 clutch - SV873 - £450.00
Lightweight Steel Flywheel - SA81S - £320.00

where is the best place to order some braided brake hoses?

either way with the bigger turbine and 360 thrust bearings, it will be alot more stronger now to hold more and sustained boost:)

Junior that is a Spec clutch. I was going to go for the stg2 but there was not a lot of price difference between the two, so might as well go for the stg3 which I did

EDIT: not sure what it is rated too, but I think from hearing about it, it is rated between 400-500bhp and similar torque as well

yes, I ordered 3 bottles as well from Bill which will be enough. Next is a set of braided brake hoses

all starting to come together now. Next up is to book it in with Storm for everything to be fitted at the end of May

I will try and get some pics, but in the mean time, next update should be at the end of May (hopefully with brakes and clutch fitted)

Save yourself a bit of cash and fit the brakes when your off sick.
Theres comprehensive guides on here and don't need much tools for it

brakes is one thing I would never touch mate, unless I had a lot of experience doing it. I have done FMIC, induction kits etc, as those are all relatively easy, but messing the brakes up is a live or die situation lol!

I will leave this one to the Pro's. Besides, while the clutch and flywheel is being done, they might as well do the brakes at the same time, saves me the hassle really:)

I thought the same up untill recently when I did mine for the first time, piece of piss!!
Saved myself about £100 of fitting and spent this on the tooling to allow me to do it myself.

Could well be a genuine 300 yes, average on the stock GT2X is around 285bhp. The turbo has no trouble holding boost and power to the redline as it is, but the reprofiled housing and larger wheel should be a great improvement.

now that you have seen the prices and work carried out Rob, when do you plan to get yours done?

will you be getting your map tweaked to take into account the modified turbo, and the possibility of more power?

I thought they were going to quote me something silly like £300-400, but for £150 thats a great price, and they were a really great bunch of guys, pleasant and professional to deal with:)

just got the invoice back from CR turbo's, and in relation to your question, the work carried out was:

Fit modified thrust bearing, fit larger compressor wheel and reprofile to suit

on a different note, for the MAF, is it just the 3" MAF housing that I need and my current MAF goes into this housing? if so, TTS supply the housing so a call to them

more goodies arrived, Spec Stg3 clutch arrived yesterday, so as the weather was so nice, a road trip to TTS ensued:D very good delivery indeed, as I only ordered it last Friday, and they normally take 5-10 working days to arrive, so what a result! also what a fantastic workshop up there, simply lovely!
