This is what’s on their website: “We are an appointed Vehicle Registration Office by DVLA to process all tax free vehicle registrations ourselves”Interesting.... I'm getting mine through FCD (as you know) but the dealer in Southampton will be registering it (I assume) as I'll have to send down my reg number retention certificate to allow them to do it.

I wouldn't say it was a correction, just my opinion. People refer to exhaust noises as pops and bangs. Perhaps it is the bangs people say are more like cracks. Personally I would say a bang is the seriously loud gunshot sounding cracks.Edited![]()

Put it this way, my brothers M140i used to burble some times, but only in the sport mode like in the sound recording. no pops or bangs though. Then he had a res delete done. Now it burbles pretty much all the time when the car is slowing down. It pops when letting off on mid range acceleration. It ocaisionally bangs under hard acceleration and over run into a down change. Hes had the car for nearly 6 months now and it has banged twice whilst i've been in it.
He doesn''t get what we call "DSG farts" though. He has an 8-speed automatic gear box and it upchanges too early before the revs are high enough to get to a range where it would "fart". plus roads round our way arent straight or long enough to really push the car. Not even the local air strip.
I've befreinded the local Wing Commander who has given us permission to take mine and his car to RAF Honnington for some "testing"

as for Amy, last I spoke to her was on Tuesday. I get the feeling she tends work a few days a week as I often don’t hear from her on Thursdays or Fridays. Maybe she is away skiing?
I beleive the dealership only sees the car as having arrived in the UK after the dock workers have recorded it as being unloaded. It could be sat in a holding area until it is booked in for a day or so if the dock is busy (having had ships dock late due to weather). I think SEAT notify the dealer if the car is on the ship though.Might be because I'm putting my personal plate on it.....

IT is seriously smooth in everyday driving to the point you don't notice the gear changes. It fucks up a lot though. Like slowing down to a round about and then wanting to pull away. here is quite the lag between taking your foot off the brake to accelerate and the car realising its not changing down gears but instead putting the clutch back in to continue driving. LEft me rolling out into a roundabout much slower than i would want to at times in front of oncoming traffic. tI'd refer to it as a burble/pop, a crack is usually louder. I'd like to hear what this guys DSG fart sounds like. (That sounds so dirty saying it back in my head)

Its DSG compared to a manual though so it depends how quick you are on your gear changes.I’m looking forward to see how the Cupra hatch performance compares to my 300bhp vx220 turbo. I suspect due to the weight difference it’s going to be slower but should be plenty enough performance for a daily drive.
I reckon dsg makes a big difference on acceleration through the gears. I was 'following swiftly' a Golf R in my TVR (which has a very 'chunky' gearbox) and had to work hard to keep with him... My Griff puts out around 320bhp and weighs 1000kg so is no slouch but gear changes ain't quick!!t

As for weight, people have described the cupra as feeling as if it has a high centre of gravity. (mainly the ST) so the vx220 can probably corner quicker

From a standing start he near enough always won. From a rolling start of say 5-10mph, i would usually come out on top because I could skip a gear change. The result would always depend on how fast my 2nd-3rd gear change was. And 0-60, petrol comes out on top. after about 70mph the petrol starts to lose all power whislt the diesel keeps going.

With the 3 litre engine over the front of the car, there is relatively little weight over that back axle and it struggles to get its power down and keep from spinning the wheels. Once going forwards it can definitely get more power down though because of that squat. The added 120 nm of torque helps to heep that squat through the low to mid speeds during accelerationRWD has much better grip from a standing start too. My current BMW has a similar weight to the Cupra and 65bhp less, yet has a lower 0-60 book time. Primarily down to the fact RWD grips much better under hard acceleration in a straight line, weight transfers backwards and squats the rear axle into the tarmac.

Acording to the book stats the M140i has a 0-60 time 1.2 seconds faster than the cupra. Although I've seen draggy times on the stock cupra 290 as low as 5.4 seconds bringing the gap down to 0.8 seconds. Theya rent really comparable cars given the difference in drivetrain and gearboxes, still interesting to see their performance comparisons though.
The cupra is a lot cheaper and comes with a lot more kit as standard. worth losing a second on 0-60 for that.
Im reading the stats here. The 4 drive 300 ST, despite being 130kg heavier, is 0.6 seconds faster than the hatchback. Pesumably the combined traction from the 4 wheel drive gives it that advantage. which is why the Golf R is quicker 0-60 than the cupra hatch but slower round a track due to the added weight of the 4 wheel drivetrain.Be interesting to see if my ST (whenever I get it...) is any better - with 4 wheel drive.
With the TVR being light and rwd I can get wheelspin in the first 3 gears!! No electronics to help either - all in the right foot!
