Mk4 question Cupra quezzie...

hi guys,

im mostly in the mk3 section but was just looking at mk4's TDI cupras (160bhp)

Did they do a CUPRA R in this marque at all or this the top of the range mk4 cupra?

no cupra r, just cupra now

fr replaces cupra

somthing to do with honda and the type r branding


oh yeah, cupra means cup racing and cupra r means cup racing racing so it seemed a little odd to she spanish

so now we have FR "formula racing" and cupra "cup racing"

anyone want to add to that ?


this is the same now for the leon, the new top line leon is just called cupra and the next one down is the fr

so is the Ibiza mk4 FR TDI more than 160bhp? which ones the better car so to speak...or better specced....

either of them have brembo brakes?

But on the dealers ETKA all parts to do with the mk4 cupra are listed under the cupra R. Weird, but yeah only cupra now.

No brembos anymore now ap racing on the cupra not on the FR. The TDI fr has 130bhp and the cupra tdi has 160bhp. Basically the same engine apart from the air intake & and differant ecu map. Cupra is still top model with FR below it.

Afriad it all depend upon the year. Got my petrol in 2005, and had about 3 option extras avialable to me crusie control, metalic paint and sun roof.

Now brand new you can have:

sun roof
metalic paint
Convenience pack constsit of - Cruise control
Heated door mirrors with park position
Curtain airbags

Differance between the FR and cupra are - different bodykit, esp is standard on cupra, xeons on FR not cupra, FR can be 5 door, 312mm discs with 4pot calipers on Cupra,.

can't think of that much more is different.....

No face lifts on the cupra range apart from the steering wheel changed shape, flat bottom when the whole range had a lift.

Also on the cupra you get a big f*ck off FMIC aswell as apposed to a little pissy one on the FR. Pound for pound the cupra is a much better car, and its only really the insurance group that put me off getting one, cupra tdi = grp 16 insurance, fr tdi = grp 8 insurance.

Don't know about what year they started plating the 1.9 desiel, seen reviews dated 04, but you could easiler buy one for that kind of dollar, even a mapped one. Hell you could have my petrol for that price....... No like mine toooo much.

insurance group is fine, already got a mk3 1.8t which is insurance group 16!

Nope, they didnt have xenons as the pipework for the FMIC is in the way of were the light washer jets would have needed to be. A easy solution though is get some HID's as they are just as good IMHO.

Auto lights i think were a deffo no no afaik, and as for the rain sensing wipers im not 100% sure tbh. I dont recall them being an opion, but i may be wrong.

seen a lovely 16500 miles black one (the best colour) for £10k or so!!!

05 plate too!!!

What a steal at that price....time to think about selling the mk3!!!!!

Well....

its a 02 plate with 46k on the clock.....

forge TIP, cupra r gauge holder, with 2 autometer gauges in...

black.......excellent condition bar the usual stone chips on the front bonnet... cleaned and washed inside and out every weekend.... very well looked after and always ran on V power.....

Full service history and every receipt since ive owned it and MOT til Nov....recently had a new milltek cat back zorst, piper cross filter, new MAF when we bought it last year, and also has a ptorque remap to 200bhp!

Oil and filter change with Synta Gold every 3000 or so miles, or every 6 months...

Keep thinking of more and more.... got 17inch wheels for the summer....and then 16inch standard cupra wheels (jsut been reconidioned with not a mark on them) for the winter (just taken off and put the 17's on )

VAG.com'ed every weekend for errors (not had anything untowards at all bar the MAF) and i have 2 flip keys for it, and 2 spares...

lovely car.....not really sure how much would ask for it....what would u offer
