Fire :(

Ok well the other day on my way back from inverness the car decided to catch fire :O. I didn't have any idea about this until my mates started flashing me and telling me to pull over when i stopped the car filled with smoke. I popped the bonnet to find the turbo Glowing red hot and the rubber boot over the steering rack where it comes through the bulk head on fire. i grabbed the only thing i had to hand a can of fanta and poured it over the fire to put it out.

Has anyone else experienced this problem where the this boot decides to melt?

now need to contact Seat to buy a new boot:(. Does anyone know the partcode?

Fitted the LCR fuel pump the day after and now just need to book it back in to have my map adjusted so i can have that little extra power.

Help ECU problems

Ok my car wont run. was driving it thye oil ligt came on. I got an error code 18011 (ebgine control module malfunction). then got 18010 low battery voltage. Alll the light on my dash came on a started flickering and ticking. oil level fine. I bought a new battery today plugged it in and no change to the car. Is my ECU knackered and could this have been caused by the revo map?

Help please

Possible that you have a loose connection on the ecu or the alternator may have a bad earth. The revo map won't cause this

I've had a look at my ecu and its not beeen secured properly and i believe the box must be missing as the previous owner has covered it with bubble wrap. The two plugs into the ECU are conected ok is there an earth or anything?

I think my alternator working ok as when i had it running i put my lights heating everything on to test the battery voltage. It dropped a little but then came back up to 13-14v. and when i reved car the volts went up.

Where bout is the alt earthed to?

cheers

Ok I found the ECU was full of water. the previous owner appears to have tried to seal it using bathroom silicone. I have taken it apart dried it all off and had one of the avionics lads at my work check the circuit board over and cleaned it up. He said the board all seemed ok. i then resealed the ECU.

I have today plugged it back into the car and it still wont start. My code reader isn't even connecting to the ecu. searched for fault codes on the ABS and got 01314 (Unable to connect to ECU)

does anyone have any idea what could be causing it?

Do I need a New ECU :(?

Sounds like the ecu has had it. I don't see why people keep opening the ecu up. Ask park man autos on eBay. He's a good bloke had a few bits off him

I opened mine because someone had done it previously and did a really bad job of sealing it. so i took it apart got it all cleaned up by a aircraft elecy at mywork and i cleaned the casing up and then re-sealed it all properly.

If i was to get a new ecu will it need programmed to the imobilizer or is it plug and play?

I wasn't saying about you opening it mate. I was on about someone opening it before you. You will need vag com to programs the ecu

ah ok. sorry i've had really bad day. bought the car 4 months ago and it feels like its been off the road more than on and now i'm getting really annoyed as this is something which just happend out the blue and will be expensive to fix :(.

is there any guides how to use vag com to code the ecu? or does it need to be done by a professional?

It does look nice there :).i'm not the biggest fan of the D90's think i'm gonna get the standard alloys powdercoated or get a set of Rota Torques.

What you don't see on that pic is the rear arches were begining to bubble. I've had that sorted and the arches rolled slightly so there is no more scrubbing. also put on a new LCR splitter that one had been ripped off before i bought it.

^^^ i like this guy an his hate for D90 i think they suck people put them on because they cant get there own ideas an there scene!!

Yeah I hate D90's also. they have just been over done and i don't like the euro look i prefer a car that looks standardish but with a hint of track. if you get what i mean.

Talking about this just before my ecu knackered i bought a set of Team dynamic pro race 1.2's 17" in gloss black with staggered fitment. got them econd hand only 2 months old in absolute mint condition and with 4 brand spanky new tires for just over £350 bargin in my eyes. pics will be up soon.

CupraWill: thanks for the advice about parkman autos. i contacted him and i have a ecu on its way to me cheers.

seems its going tobe standard i'm now going for a custom map which is going to be done by Viper tuning. (He did my mates S4 which is now pushing about 420bhp at the wheels ) plan is by the end of Jan to have the car perfect MOT'd for another year and taxed.

The only thing i want now once the car is all running and things is big brakes. so if any one has any let me know.
