As I pulled into the works carpark this morning I heard a loud bang followed by the back window cracking...there is absolutely no sign of someone throwing something at it - a couple of workmates were walking past me and didn't see anything. I did have the rear demist on too.

Has anyone ever heard of this? The glass has completely shattered (the entire panel)although obviously its still in the boot...just. No tell tale holes or anything.

Sorry to hear this what a pain! I don't use the demister when it is frozen cos this read so many post son this at this time of year scares me and everything seems to go wrong with my car, just use your mirrors if it has steamed up next time!

A lot more common than you would think... Tends to happen because of the temperature difference between the inside (hot) and outside (cold) of the glass when you have the demister on!

Happened to an old cavalier my dad used to have.

I dont like using the demister just from this ;)

Do the ibiza's have a timer on the demister?

I always use my demister, I choose to use it over the rear wiper most of the time. The light on mine doesn't turn off, but I'm sure I hear a relay that clicks off.

Boot light here, but no glovebox light lol ..... I hope it doesn't turn into another one of those threads!

when i demist my rear window i flick the heated rear window switch on put the heating on and open the window, the rear window then clears really quick id say within a minute then i just switch the demister off and close my window then i dont have to deal with it again for the rest of the journey.
ive always done this with all my cars with no problems atall.
