worth remembering the alternator is seeing a lot more revs these days stu.

anyone remember robs pickle on jbs's rollers a few years back, its rear lights started to glow for no reason when the revs got high... almost like red eyes getting brighter. well weird.

just a thought
 
you been overdrivin the alternator then stu?

is there such thing as an uprated one???
 
With the extra revs I run everything is sped up and is overloading components, by fitting an undersized pully it slows down the rpm of the alternator to 'normal' levels, been looking to do this to the water pump to stop cavitations etc
 
stu I realise that it has been ages since you fitted them,

but the first pic in your thread shows where you ground off a bit of the calliper to fit the brakes.
I am currently working on a 312mm brake set off a TT for my cupra. I know I need to chafe some of the calliper off. But is it the same place? And what did you use to grind off the calliper? Or did you get it done?

But you said 6-7mm. But how am I gonna know exactly how much? Because I take it the machine shop will want to know exactly...and if I take too much off it also won;t be snug?
 
Managed to breath life into it this morning - just enough to get it to move 100yds from the bottom of the road to outside the house. Ickle battery was struggling to keep it going despite having a full charge.

Whipped of the alternator and had it tested locally and it is indeed fualty - just got to see if theres any warrenty on the part or get this one repaired.

Whilst the airbox was off I discovered theres bit of a leak fom the oilcooler, could explain the oil consumption its been having..

Theres a bit of tolerance where the carrier sits over the disc which you want to get the carrier as central as possible to the disc.

People who have done this have had to take 7mm off, whereas myself it was 6mm:shrug:

Maybe it shrunk in the heat :lol:
 
hmm...so maybe best off starting with 6mm max and then checking it. If its too little I can go back. If its too much I have a problem.
Its like getting your hair cut, they can't glue it back on if they took too much off :cartman:
 
Hi Stu, by no means do I mean to highjack your thread, but need a last confirmation as where to machine mill the callipers. I found a place which will do it right by my work and want to get the parts to them this week if possible.


On your picture of the callipers it looks like you machined them where the pistons are, expect on my callipers there is screw there.

So question is where do I mill them exactly, which of the pics below where arrows are pointing?
