Does it only do it with both pedals pressed???

It could be doing it when the clutch is beign pressed... Thrust bearing??

Hi All,

Not sure where this thread ended up, but I am having a similar issue with my MK3 Cupra.

Turning left sounds like a whining noise, but when I straighten up the wheels the sound goes. As times gone on I've started to hear the noise turning the other way as well.

Occasionally hearing a clunk metal on metal clunk, normally when reversing or the car is on un-even ground.

For the last 12 months I've heard the EDL come on turning left out of the road, only when its cold, I never heard this out of the ordinary apart from the once in the morning job, but surely this should do that.

I've taken it to the local trusted garage who told me they couldn't find what it was or where the noise was coming from.

Since lately hearing a louder clunk I am starting to get a bit worried, logic tells me it could be the anti roll bar bushes causing the problems, apparently they cause clunking noises when they go. still baffled as to why the EDL activates going round a corner in the morning, no matter what condition it is...

Would appreciate any help you guys can offer

Cheers,
Will

Not lowered
camber and tracking all good
drive shafts apparently in good condition

Did think this myself, but asked a the garage to check and they told me both fronts were in good condition.... had them checked along with drive shafts.

Should i risk taking my car to the monkeys down at Newbury Seat? they have broken more than they fix on my car ;-)

hi there im still getin the same issues wiv mine, in the morning *** i pull off up the road u hear a noise it sounds like the EDL but it only does it the once and only *** the car is cold. Also after driving the car 4 abit *** iam turnin left and braking i get a clonking noise it sounds again like the edl is kicking in but it only does it *** i go left but it dont do it all the time. ive got sum anti roll bar bushes put put on see if that makes a difference?

Is it not a abs sensor starting to fail causing the abs to kick in but it wont show any fault codes? or worst comes to the worst take it to the stealers and get them to check it, i take it you work in a garage so might get discounted hourly rates like i do.

Just to update you the whining is gone after changing the Wishbone bushes, anti-roll bar bushes and the drop links, that were pretty much hanging off I'm told.

THOUGH, i still get my clunking noise, no whining now. just the occasional clunk!

Steering rack has been pronounced dead a couple of weeks ago, so i guess I'll have to change that next and see what the difference is, hoping i don't hear any clunking again.

also JBS tell me my engine mounts are shot, maybe this is the cause of the clunk, but i would hope there could never be enough travel in the engine mount to clunk like that, a tad worrying ;-)
