Oil pump failure?

Dont run it atall, new pump, pickup and oil and filter, once you start it let it idle for a few mins to get the oil round then engine before revving. then just take it for a nice steady drive.

Thanks to all for your comments. I'm noew a very happy bunny after 5 weeks on the peasant wagon. car fixed today, turned out to be the pickup pipe as mentioned above. Annoying part is that the reliable mechanic that fixed it says that the engine management light had come on because of the variation in the tensioners from lack of all. That light came on 6 weeks ago & I took it to someone local who just reset the codes & told me not to worry. Could have saved me a lot of trouble if they'd have know what they were doing.

There's a lesson there for being sure that your mechanic really knows his cars. I've learnt mine big time, thankfully it didn't cost me my car!!

Ignorance costs you more in the long run, bare it in mind, any noise or leak you have and you just leave it for ages, can turn out to cost more than you expected. I.e wheel bearing is clunking and grinding, thinking il get it done next week cold result in your wheel overtaking you when you least expect it ;)

I know what you mean. I know enough to stop driving it at the right time hence me saving it this time from any damage beyond the actual repair itself. But beyond that I know very little so I rely on the "experts" to tell me what's actually wrong. In this case they let me down badly. I won't be using them again. The guy I ended up taking it to has looked after mine & my dads cars for years. Only reason I didn't go to him first is a live a lot further from him now. but I'll stomach the distance in future for the safety of my car.

re help same problem

hi i have a seat leon cupro 1.8 turbo the problem is this i was on a long drive and my oil presure light came on with 3 beeps i pulled over straight away and checked the oil all seemed fine so i continued my journey (i no this was not clever )around 5 mins passed and the light and beeping started again then i started losing power and had a horrible noise coming from the engine by time i puled over the car would not start again the beltgon the left hand side of engine spins i am not very clued up about these engines so if anyone could tell me like i said the left side of the engnie turns any help greatly apriciated
Hi all,

I visit today hoping for a glimmer of hope as my much loved Mk1 Leon Cupra stands outside in an induced coma. :cry:

Whilst driving home on Saturday I was hit with the flashing oil light & three beeps signifying low oil pressure. I stopped immediately & not understanding what this might mean I topped up the oil (even though it wasn't that low) & continued on. About a mile later the light came on again folowed by a fast ticking noise from the engine bay that got progressively worse over about 20-30 seconds. I again stopped immediately but this time called a recovery truck that brought me back home. I haven't driven the car since.

I cautiously thought this could be the oil pump which the recovery guy concurred. Having spoken to my garage today they have also said this is the likely problem.

I have been quoted £500-£600 to get this repaired with no guarantee that further damage hasn't been caused which would then require more money thrown at it.

My dilemma is this:

I have put a lot of money into the car to get it how I want it but this has included a number of repairs which I believe are due to the high mileage, presently 145k. Are the assessments I've had likely to be right & I should I just end it now, strip it & get what I can back for the parts? Or is it worth getting it looked at & maybe repaired?

Finally, if I was to go for repair, is £500-£600 a fair price in everybodys opinion?

All thoughts would be very welcome as I need to either say goodbye :drive2: & move on or feel cheered that there is more hope than I've been given so far!!!!

You're right, that was a bad idea. I'm no mechanic but I'd say it's very possible you've caused some serious engine damage. I may be wrong but I think the horrible noise and lack of power was possibly the engine starting to seize.

im slightly confused as the enginge still turns surly if it was locked up this wouldnt happen can anyone shed any light on this please

Unclip your the top of your timing belt cover and pull it back, check the belt is still on the cam, if it's not, your engine is toast, probably seized causing the belt to snap,
