Problem after fitting new ECU

Hi All,
My dad has a 1998 Ibiza 1.0. His ECU was fried so he bought another off ebay. Now the immobiliser seems to be shutting the engine down on start up.

Any ideas how to get round this?

Cheers
William

reprogramming the immobiliser

without the SKC code you will need either Vag-Tacho + Vag Com or a Dealer to do it

or send it off to a specialist for an immobiliser defeat/removal

Ok. Thanks. Any idea how much that might cost?

The old car might not be worth it I'm afraid.

you need to get the key that from the car you got the ecu from and swap the chip into the key your using at the moment if not your looking on reprogram not sure on cost etc but its much easier and cheaper to swap chips just done it myself

How do you remove the immobiliser?

I didn't think this was possible?

Right. On the advice above, I have asked the guy I got the ECU from to get me the key. He is to get back to me. Presumably if all I have to do is change the chip in the key, the part in the ignition barrel is just a reader and doesn't need to be matched to the ECU.

I hope this is right?????

I'll let you know if I get it working.

yes it will just talk to the ecu and tell it that the correct key is in it ive just changed an igntion so i had to swap the chip out my old key into the new key an it works 100%

no they key splits into two and you can see the chip inside the key its the chip that needs swaping because i swaped my locks but had to use the chip out my old key so your doing things the opposite way you have a new ecu so u need the chip from the key off the new the ecu but cos ur locks havent changed its new chip into old key and trust me it will work 100%

basically its the chip that talks to the ecu via the transponders so your ignition is turning so all you need is the chip ill try an get a pic for you
