At the moment guys its not looking like good news but i am a strong believer in every cloud has a silver lining…
Just spoke to Midland VW and they have said the cold has done quite a bit of damage to the engine hoses and it would seem that one of the metal engine hoses has split along with some of the rubber ones.
Also when they got the car up on the ramp they have found some rather nasty body work holes that they say would be an instant MOT failure…and also they are concerned about a bit of rust on the A pillar which I saw and didn’t think was that bad…so at the moment no work has been done and the owner is going to call me tomorrow to have a chat with me…
Oh and they also said they think ive been sent the wrong coilies to…..
So not a good day on the Jetta front and I feel a bit ill from the whole thing but until I hear from the guy tomorrow I am going to try and not think about it.
My only thoughts at the moment would be that it has a current MOT at the moment and the holes must be out of sight as I checked all the foot wells and the places that I know these can rust.
Only real good think I can think off is that the car did only cost me £400 and maybe that can be made back by striping it down ?...

hey mate, just saw this thread. Like the fact you're also working on a golf salloon, although here in the netherlands this is known as a Vento; not a jetta (not sure if thats what you said in your first post??)
Older cars will always have problems. Especially the ones that drive very little. Once you start them hoses are bound to break.
Although I am not fully sure why you're having the work done by a dealer (dealer??). Buy the hoses yourself and replace; should be a relatively easy job.
As for the wrong coilovers I would be very sure to check before you return them and buy others. The Seat dealer close to me had my car for a general check, as the guy who bought it wanted that done, and they said that all 4 springs were broken which was really really dangerous! Note, they were coilovers and the 'broken' springs were the helper springs all coilovers have LOL!!

Ive been doing bits to it but the garage i take it to know me quite well and did me a really good deal on the coilies and tracking at the same time so i thought while it was in having its service i'd just get it done to save time.
But
it looks like the dream maybe dead now anyway with the welding work and stuff. I am getting a call tomorrow so i await that with the verdict....

I nearly cried when I found holes in the mk2, cost me sweet fa in the end to sort it. If its not to bad it can be fixed.....might just take you time if you wanna keep costs down.

I made a call on the car and sadly it doesnt look like its paid off but then again its not over till the fat lady sings and that fat lady is Jody from Midlands VW.
if he says the engine hoses and sill leaks can be fixed for a decent sum the ill go for it and the do the coilies myself while getting the holes fixed.....If not then the tax will be sent back and i will stay in the beeza for X amount of time untill funds are built back up and a new jetta can be found and then we start again.
I am gutted though and stella has helped me deal with this tonight.

I started off with £1000 for this project as a base. The coilies were £170 the grill was £30 and the car was £400....and i have £300 left so only £100 has gone missing in little bits along the way so if i could break it for £400 then i'd be happy to just start again....
