Repaired the car... but still a problem

New discs hasn't sorted the problem. I found out though that the abs ring got damaged when the accident occured  Cars are so much fun one minute and so much hassle the next!

I have had to unplug the abs sensor for the time being to stop the grinding. The abs light is now on along with the TCS light. Sometimes in the morning a red exclamation mark will flash up and beep three times, and other times it won't? :S

Anyway looks like a need a new abs ring? Would these warning lights cause the car to run in some sort of limp mode?

Thanks

Check brake fluid level, mine did this as my rear pads were wearing down and i kept topping up the system (changed the pads and it stopped lol) may be related, may not. Mine did happen as i was cornering usually though.

Lights will be on as they both use that sensor.

Haha too bloody true mate, ive have my share of ups and downs.

Hmm not sure, you should just be able to get the ring on its own but how much it'll be im not sure. May be cheaper to get a hub from a scrapper with the ring still in tact.

Yeah the signal needs to be constant, the chunk missing is sending a signal the ECU can't read so flags the fault.
Looks like you need a new wheel hub as I'm not 100% sure if the signal ring is just pressed on or not.

if it happened when you pressed hard or the odd slippy surface that would be the abs working :)

The abs in the Puma was quite simple, it also performed a self test at around 10 mph everytime you started the car, you could hear this. With the faulty sensor the brakes would intermittantly grind and feel horrible through the pedal, as if the abs was trying to activate when it didn't need to. A quick trip to the local dealer with diagnostics flagged up the sensor straight away.

Think you're right Lee. I know you can get removeable ones for the rear, but on the front the abs ring is actually part of the hub  Oh great. I can't really afford it atm!

Well at least I've found out something which wasn't answered. Today I plugged the abs sensor back in just to test it out, and guess what, the power came back! I knew it wasn't my imagination or me getting used to the power, the difference was night and day. I could hear the Forge 007p even with the standard airbox back on!

So to anyone who may read this, without the abs working the car DOES run in some sort of protective mode. :)

IF the ECU reads that the brakes are applied it cuts most of the power - this is what your dodgy sensor was telling it :)

But the power was cut with the sensor DISconnected? The power returned (even though it grinds when I pressed the brake pedal) when I plugged it back in and the warning lights went off? Or I am understanding what you're saying wrong lol :headhurt:

Or do you mean if the ECU reads that the ABS is faulty it cuts most power?

Thanks

You see the main hub part at the front with the ABS ring going around it, can that part be separated from the big chunky metal bit behind it?

I'm pretty sure it can be but I had some sort of confusion that the whole thing would have to be replaced :|

If you apply the brakes and try to accelerate, tbe car will cut power as it detects you're braking - ask anyone who's tried left foot braking in a Leon. If there is a fault with the ABS / Braking circuit ( i.e. sensor disconnected) it would potentially cut power as that's a safety fault due to one of the inputs not being available.
